Clinton: 'I Had to Make a Hard Decision' to Accept Secretary of State Job

We’ve been wondering how Hillary Clinton felt about conceding the Democratic presidential primary to Barack Obama. It must have been quite the emotional rollercoaster — heading back to the senate and then being picked as her former rival’s top diplomat.

Well, during a visit to Indonesia Wednesday, the secretary of state shed a little light on her decision to accept the nomination.

"It was not anything I had any reason to expect or had even thought about," she said about being offered the State Department job, according to The New York Times. "I had to make a hard decision."

Of course she was disappointed at just barely missing out on the nomination, but Clinton said she put that aside to help do some good in a world both she and Obama agreed had been a bit bruised by the Bush administration. And it seems Clinton was given a warm welcome in Indonesia. Well, for the most part. She appeared on a wildly popular teen TV show, and was mobbed by a bunch of locals screaming, "Hillary, Hillary!" And she definitely got some props for being so outwardly gracious about the election outcome.

"When you have an election, some people win and some people lose," she said. "I’ve had that experience … I know how important it is in a democratic system that you accept the results … you have to find common ground."

Still, The Jakarta Post is questioning whether all the good will toward Hillary is just the result of savvy political skills on her part. The Post asks: "Who really is Hillary Clinton? Is she a true friend or someone carrying out the international public relations duty of a new president in need of reforming and shoring up global support for Washington?"

Far be it for us to speak for Clinton, but we don’t think she would be a voiceless messenger — for anyone.

Hillary and Obama will put America first, that is their main goal to get foreign relations put back on an even keel again…she is a very strong lady in her own right and she does believe in the same things as Obama and that makes her position as SOS very important to their mission.

Ms. Clinton has more class in her pinky finger than most people I know. She is gracious and strong. While she is pro choice, she wants to see abortion reduced, she is pro marriage for ALL. I would have voted for her in a heartbeat. I tell you, I would feel safer with her as my Commander in Chief than with Obama or McCain. She was put in a strange position and I have to admit when I heard she was on the list for Sec of State, I was a little shocked. Anyway, as usual, she handled herself perfectly. Run in 2012 and I may just switch party lines, shhhh :)

Noelle: I’m proud to say I did a ….write-in….for Mrs. Clinton in the past election. Not because of being against Obama for president but because I resented the treatment Mrs. Clinton received from the DNC…it was a vote against them. America will get back its good name with this new administration.   Mrs. Clinton as SOS is indicitive of how President Obama regards her strong commitment and loyalty to our country and he could not have made a better choice.

I actually just posted on another story. The bottom line: She’s gonna get the job done! I didn’t do a write but I since I wasn’t thrilled with either choice, I should have.

She is will be a good Secretary of State but my bet is that she will never forgive the type of campaign Obama ran against her and how her party let her down.

She’s moved beyond that.  She’s already forgiven him.  He didn’t run any rougher campaign against her than she did against him.  And, they have a great working relationship.  And, I think she will do a great job as Sec’y of State.

I don’t think there is any question that Hillary Clinton brushed the campaign off and moved on with her life. McCain is the one who doesn’t seem to be letting go in a healthy way.

McCain is conducting business as usual.   He was passionate in voting against the stimulus package based on what he knows is best for our country.    He wasn’t alone.

isnt that the way about the republican leaders?

fiscial responsiblity is their montra or spending doesnt help….. until it effects their own pocket….. then it  becomes…. "this isnt enough" or "where is mine?"
