Courtney Cox to Sink Her Claws into ABC's 'Cougar Town'

Courtney Cox will be sinking her claws into a new show called "Cougar Town."
The former "Friends" actress is reportedly playing a newly single 40-year-old mother of a teenage son in an upcoming ABC pilot comedy that follows a woman who isn’t afraid to talk "about Botox, having sex with the lights on and how her body is changing," reports Hollywood Reporter.
"Cougar Town" will be produced by ABC Studios and scripted by "Scrubs" creator Bill Lawrence and "Scrubs" writer Kevin Biegel. Stay tuned. Filming begins in 2009 and is predicted to air later in the year.
Because Cox, 44, is married to David Arquette, who is 7 years her junior, she is not a real-life "cougar," according to wowOwow’s definition of a "cougar". Though, her best friend Jennifer Aniston is.
While the term "cougar" makes some women flinch for its seemingly demeaning connotation that older women are on the prowl to find themselves male prey; others feel that the term is a symbol of empowerment. Women earned their stripes and aren’t afraid to date whomever they please. So, love the term or despise it – older women dating younger men is growing into a cultural movement.

so staff at wow… does this mean her show “Dirt” is over? I hated the second season… but the premiere season I loved. it showed great potential. and her character on that was one of the best tv bitches in a long time. she was great in it. I wondered though…after that horrid second season if it was going to get killed.
I do find the term “cougar” offensive and think that it is a ridiculous one for intelligent women to embrace and buy into. Love, sex, power and relationships of all sorts are the right of every woman and man of every age to seek out at their will. Why do women above a certain age have to be “graced” with a term that seeks to classify them and grants permission to pursue their what is their right by birth.
I’d be embarrassed to ever watch a show called “Cougar Town”.
Be okay if it was about big cats.
I dont like sex with the lights on and never will …I should of been a nun ..or a monk …if I only knew ….They should do a show about me ! I think all the convents all over the world should let SISTERS have dogs and cats too …If I won the Lotto I bet I could change things in the Vatican ! $$$$…well I hope I made someone laugh today ! I hope this show makes me laugh at myself …but never a younger man …I would feel like I was Molesting someones little brother …or baby-sitting ..Ya know I cant be a Nun …too late …and I married because I thought it was love …or something …but next time I will be looking for one foot in the bucket and a big bank account ..
Most girls I know who dated and or married a younger man had to shell out $$$ lots of it …I never understood it & it made me sick …Sex isn’t what I thought it would be …I rather garden or play with my dogs or talk to my bird or look at my gold fish …or read …with a hot cup of tea and a biscotti covered with chocolate , I rather be in doing something else than have sex …
{=D
Eliza - your wish came true … you made me laugh today! Thanks.
Are you still married? I like tea and biscotti too. But everything has a time and a place.
mmmm, last night was the right time and right place.
Why doesn’t that surprise me?
My comment was meant for eliza, not the “other one”
Nada new here. “Older” women have been dating younger men forever. This is not a new “cultural movement”. How ridiculous! But perhaps this is “new” for the 21st Century, 20-early 40 something female crowd - who in all likely-hood mostly date and marry same/near age or older men. So enjoy the new show. I won’t be watching. Wait, has’nt this already been done on the daytimesoaps since 1970?
I am tickled by the reference but must admit that after I turned 40, younger men became attractive to me. After years of dating older and much older men, I have recenlty begun dating younger men. Something happened to me after 40. Suddenly, I had a new and more adventurous attitude about all sorts of things. I am having the time of my life. lol. While I am not sure it is a movement, I have noticed that more and more of my friends are supporting the behavior.
Well, when you’re like me, and believe in rejection more than anything else, I can’t imagine why someone would set themselves up to be rejected for a younger woman AGAIN and AGAIN and AGAIN! Sorta nuts, if y’ask me.
