Cynthia McFadden: My Stepson's Book

Cynthia McFadden
Loved Marie Brenner’s Apples and Oranges: My Brother and Me, Lost and Found; James Frey’s Bright Shiny Morning; Steven Saylor’s The Triumph of Caesar: A Novel of Ancient Rome; and Fareed Zakaria’s The Post-American World. Adam Davies has a delightful novel coming out in August called Mine all Mine which I think is quite brilliant — with prejudice — he is my stepson. I am currently engrossed in two books: Stephen Carter’s Palace Council and David Wroblewski’s The Story of Edgar Sawtelle.

How in the world did James Frey get another book deal after scamming his publisher the first time? I am astounded at the ethics of the publishing industry.

sorry, I can’t resist … you are astonished that J. Frey got another book deal ?! … what country do you live in? … the past eight years I have been astounded at the ethics of the American public and administration …

Well Ulla, if you have been astounded by the ethics of the present administration, I guess you weren’t around to experience the “ethics” (or lack thereof) of the previous Clinton administration.

Please. Clinton screwed Hillary and Lewinsky (in different ways). Bush has screwed the American people and the constitution of the United States. There is quite a difference there. One does not equal the other. And, please, don’t tell me Clinton was worse.

Sorry, I must add, what ethics does the Bush Administration have? I have noticed a great absence of ethics where Bush, Cheyney et al are concerned.
