David Letterman Roasts John McCain (Video)

By The Staff at wowOwow.com
David Letterman roasted Republican presidential candidate John McCain last night.

Sen. John McCain was supposed to appear on "The Late Show With David Letterman," but at the last minute called the talk-show host to cancel. Letterman retold the conversation to his audience last night, describing how McCain said he was apparently running back to Washington to fix the doomed economy.

Throughout the night, Letterman comically ripped McCain and his campaign to shreds. He also took aim at Republican vice-presidential running-mate Sarah Palin. Letterman, 61, even made a joke about McCain’s digestive tract.

"Someone is putting something in his Metamucil," he said.

that letterman clip is both funny and telling. i will say about mccain that he forgets from time to time what his position was yesterday. obama, on the other hand, keeps plugging along in his calm, logical, visionary way.

Mary Lou, It was telling. David was doing more than ranting, he was giving a commentary on this situation. Is McCain or Obama on the committee?? Even if the vote is scheduled for Friday, it would still give both of them time to get to the debate. Obama is on the phone to Paulson and Pelosi so he is always informed and if he is needed, he will go to Washington. I think the another reason McCain canceled is because he is being pinned down by Cheney and the Repubs to make a decision of what plan to back. So it’s more about party politics than the economy IMHO.

This was the best ever. Dave was at his prime last night. You really need to see the entire show to get the real feel of it all. It was too good. And I loved how Dave suggested that Palin and Biden take the Friday night debate spot, yeah like that’s going to happen. Everyone needs to see Palin’s interview with Katie Couric, it was also great entertainment. You watch it and you can’t help saying to yourself “is she kidding me”, “are they serious that she’s ready to step in when the old guy has a heart attack”? Seriously all you McCain/Palin voters, do you seriously think that she can lead this nation? OK, I get that you believe that McCain is the best for the job, that’s what he has sold you then great. But shouldn’t you really look at her and the strong strong possibility that she is to step in in a heartbeat, she’s a heartbeat away from the Oval Office and you are OK with that? I mean you really have to ponder the possibility of that happening. If you watch her interaction with the head of states that we were able to get a glipse of you can see she does not know how to handle the situation. The Pakistani president was about to “make out” with her, and she just smiled. Really, a strong confident woman does not know how to divert that? Come on, we’ve all been in that situation, the jerks that will come out in the meetings, but the women that can redirect that situation are the strong confident one. She did not have that at all. And to sit there with other leaders and avoid answering questions from the press is just ridiculous. And now the ticket comes out with was their true objective was in “suspending” the campaign, they want to attempt to cancel the VP’s debate. If the Presidential debate moves to the slot that was set aside for the VPs then there’s really no room to put the VP’s debate back on the calendar. We only have less than 40 days to get it in. McShameless……..

Dave made a great point about Sarah Palin, that if John is rushing back to Washington to fix the economy, then why doesn’t Sarah take over campaigning for him? Hmmmm…NOT a good idea. Where IS Sarah Palin????? All McCain’s bad choices are going to come back to bite him in the rear. According to a poll done yesterday, 75% of those polled believe the debate should be held tomorrow night, and 36% think the topic should be changed to debate the economy. What happens if McCain doesn’t show up?????

Hey, I’m fine with McCain suspending his campaign. Let the Debate Committee bring in the hightest-polling third-party candidate to debate Obama. Let the Republicans lose by default. What’s so wrong with that?

I’d like to see Ralph Nader get some prime time. He’s not good presidential timber, but he cares about the consumer, and it’s good to listen to him.

I watched the show and loved every second of it. It was very telling and interesting to watch because you could see that David was responding on a pure guttural level. He was genuinely offended (as he should have been) and didn’t hide those emotions as most in his position probably would have. It made for great TV and a wonderful conversation tool, because I assure you all across the U.S. and internet, we are debating about it.

I don’t think it was a Roast as much as Disbelief in what has taken place. Like an Alarm going off in his head, “Danger Will Rogers Danger”. I’ll bet he didn’t even sleep last night as the events of the day sunk in. Not so funny as True. Let the VPs gives us their Readiness. Let us see who can step in on a moments notice and carry on!

Danger Will”, etc…I keep having flashes on Andy Kaufmann and his Mighty Dog will save the day bit…or was it Mighty Mouse? The other refrain in my head is “clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right, here I am……” and I don’t mean the left/right thing reflects the politics…it’s the STUCK in the middle mess for all of us……
