Prop. 8 Foes Hail 'Call in Gay Day' on Wednesday in Support of Same-Sex Marriage

By The Staff at wowOwow.com
Day Without a Gay

Proposition 8 opponents are urging people to "call in gay" to work on Wednesday to show how much the country relies on gays and lesbians. Organized by JointheImpact.com and mirroring the 2006 "Day Without Immigrants" demonstration, "Day Without a Gay" encourages same-sex-marriage supporters to rally for a "nationwide strike and economic boycott."

People are being encouraged to do the following, says event coordinator David Craig:

"Call in gay" to their place of work by taking the day off or shutting down their businesses. We are also encouraging them to refrain from buying, spending money or supporting the economy in any way. Finally, we are asking them to get involved, either by volunteering or by signing petitions to repeal anti-gay initiatives in their home state.

The initiative comes on the same day as Human Rights Day, which began in the 1950s to celebrate basic civil liberties. It also comes during a Depression-fearing economy — where jobs are at stake and workers feel apprehensive about taking a "sick" day. But the issue of gay marriage has become a very heated topic lately, since California passed Proposition 8, which banned same-sex marriage. The protest organizers were also responsible for the November 15 National Day of Protest to repeal Prop 8.

I hope this idea gets around so that people are shocked by the numbers of people who call in. Unfortunately, in this economic climate, many are afraid for their jobs and may not be willing to put themselves on the line like this.

Oh, boy! Another good reason to keep my money in my wallett! I hope we’ll hear about a stunning impact as result of this effort come Thursday.

I’ve already told my employees who may do this that I would approve of them calling in tomorrow. It’s important!

Lorraine: Only a gay business owner would allow their employees to call off gay. Gay day is the dumbest thing I’ve heard of. Gays are less than 4% of the population, yet want benefits Hispanics don’t have. Gay marriage is not a gay issue, its a marriage issue. Marriage is between a man and a woman. Why? Because men and women can procreate. Gays cannot. Every state in this country has voted against gay marriage. I’ve been called a bigot for voting yes on Prop 8. Call me what you want. I’m not alone. I know the liberal judges are looking for a loophole to overturn Prop 8, as they have in MA and CT. They won’t. The people have spoken, get a civil union. After the way the gays terroized the streets and certain chuches, I’ll vote the same way everytime.

fp: Bigotry is defined as someone with hatred towards a group. I don’t hate gay people, I just voted for Prop 8. I didn’t walk down the street with signs that had Nazi swastikas painted on them. Gays did. If gays want to get married move to MA or CT. Thats where GLAD is located. You can all dance around like wild banshees.

fp: Wow, good comeback. You should be a speaker for gay marriage.

Better that than your being a spokesman for bigotry.

Ah yes the knuckle-dragging throwback speaks again—you would be laughable if what you say were not filled with so much hate—you’re a perfect example of the barbarians still with us—too bad a time machine isn’t available to send you back where you belong: 30, 000 years would be about right—that way you rage all you won’t and no one would pay attention to your lunacies.

Mr. Key, I hope your real names isn’t Francis and your middle name Scott because it’s like naming a member of the KKK Martin Luther King, Jr.
