Death Watch for Hillary Campaign ... Or Is It? by Monica Crowley

Editor’s Note: Monica Crowley, Ph.D., is a panelist on The McLaughlin Group, the host of the nationally syndicated radio program, "The Monica Crowley Show" and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.

Everyone is abuzz about the impending demise of the Hillary Clinton for President campaign. They say: She will wait until all the votes are in and counted (which would be Tuesday night). She will give a major speech from her (adopted) home base of New York, which will be gracious and honorable. (Hey, there’s a first time for everything.) She will suspend her campaign, send her exhausted staffers home to the families they haven’t seen in a year, process their expense reports (especially those Dunkin’ Donuts runs through the snows of Iowa) and figure out how to pay back her campaign debt (that $32 million Bill got from the thugs in Kazakhstan would do it.)

But there is one thing we should know by now about the Clintons: Nothing is as it appears.

Impossible delegate math? No problem. Big debt? No worries. Black candidate from whom the Democratic party doesn’t want to take the nomination? More of a problem.

But the Clintons are ingenious Houdinis. They pull the most creative solutions (read: political hits) out of the hat when there is a gun to their heads. They may be cooking something up. They may be waiting for the next political IED to blow up in Obama’s face (and make no mistake: there are more to come). They may be doing both.

One thing’s for sure: After running for the presidency for 30 years (and getting it twice), they aren’t about to become passive observers. They are manic doers, and the one thing they know how to do — the ONLY thing they know how to do — is run for president.

Numbers be damned. They aren’t about to stop now.

From 20 minutes ago and Reuters: WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Hillary Clinton said on Tuesday she’s open to the possibility of being Barack Obama’s vice presidential running mate, a Democratic party aide said. Clinton, who appears on the verge of losing the Democratic presidential nomination to Obama, made the comment in a conference call with fellow members of New York’s congressional delegation, the aide said. The party aide quoted Clinton as saying, when asked about being Obama’s running mate: “I am open to it.”

Why doesn’t someone take Monica Crowley on a back-packing trip? You know, where you have to pick up every bit of your trash and bury your poop.

Why is Monica Crowley so incredibly nasty? I did not even vote for Senator Clinton, but i have incredible respect for her. Both Obama and Clinton have gotten more votes for president than any primary candidate in history. Senator Clinton won Puerto Rico in an overwhelming vote Sunday. Today we have to watch for the votes to be counted in Montana and South Dakota and New Mexico. Senator Clinton is expected to make a speech tonight, but I do not think she will concede just yet. I am intrigued by Senator Obama’s offer to meet with her at a time and place of her choosing. Perhaps Mario Cuomo’s dream ticket will come to be?

Monica Crowley is not only incredibly nasty, she’s insufferable. Gawd, she’s hard to read.

Ok - so, I gotta ask. Now that you actually heard Hillary’s speech…. Think Monica is nasty now? Or balls-on accurate?

Lorraine B— I vote “balls-on” accurate.

I want Hillary to run as an Independent. Especially after the DNC took away her delegates and gave them to Obama. If she doesn’t, sadly I will be voting for McCain.

It is not over yet. Obama wants to talk to her this week. I think she may get her delegates back. Or end up on the ticket.
