While the fashion world was still in awe at Diane von Furstenberg’s fabulous Sunday runway show that featured her upcoming Fall collection, wowOwow was front-row at DVF’s private runway show Wednesday night. That’s right! The queen of the fashion world presented a unique runway show that featured clothes from her upcoming Spring "Rock Goddess" collection. The event, hosted by André Leon Talley (Vogue’s editor-at-large), was an exclusive show for American Express cardholders. Proceeds from Wednesday night’s ticket sales were donated to the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund, a program which supports emerging fashion designers. Moments before the models strutted the runway, DVF told wowOwow that it was the late Diana Vreeland, the former Vogue editor, who inspired this spring collection.

She would see a good looking aristocrat and put a camera in his hands and say, ‘You boy, you go to India and photograph elephants. She invented people and invented people making things. There was a certain freedom about that. And that’s very much what this collection is about.

The collection did indeed show a freedom of colors and accessories. Gone with the wind were the rules they teach at FIT. There were long dresses with sandals. Bikinis with high heels. The clothes were softly-tailored, elegant and fluid. Any woman would have had a ball in them. "It’s the fantasy of every woman to be a little bit of a rock star and a little bit of a goddess," said the designer.

You can’t argue with DVF. Von Furstenberg definitely knows what women want. And with International Women’s Day right around the corner (on March 8), we asked her what she thought about the special day, which celebrates empowering women. "I love women. I am inspired by women. My mission in life is to inspire women. I do it with my clothes, my words, my money."

In the past, von Furstenberg has worked with NGO Vital Voices to train and equip women around the globe to run for political office or start their own business. She’s even an inspiration to young woman — as the boss of Whitney Port and Olivia Palermo, whose "careers" and "lives" are followed on MTV’s "reality-show," "The City."

It’s fun to have them around. At first, I wasn’t sure, but I like it!

We went on to gab a bit longer, and asked her if she’s thinking about plastic surgery. (Last March, when Joan Juliet Buck asked her about it, she was riding the fence). Nearly one year later, she said she thinks she’s not going to go there … Then, we asked her how she kept her hair so great, and her response was a bit surprising — henna powder. Who knew henna was the key to bountiful waves?

Anyways, for us, the night was extra special. For American Express, the night was to provide their clients with the opportunity of a lifetime: the experience to witness firsthand a fabulous fashion show and meet a legendary designer.

"We’re giving cardholders the chance to walk away with a new perspective on fashion," said Jessica Igoe, 35, American Express’s director of global sponsorship marketing, and not to mention: "You just feel like a woman wearing Diane’s clothes."

Well said!

She has the best style. Her fashions are always sophisticated and casual at the same time. Not an easy feat for any designer to pull off, and yet she does, year after year.

Fashion shows are great, the ladies that were privileged to have seen this one are lucky. I really enjoy seeing them live and having the ability to see the fashions up close and personal. And to see them in the manner in which the designer envisioned them to look and hang on a body. At 5-6’ I have purchased MANY outfits that I saw at a fashion show, only to be disappointed when I put them on and realize I was lacking the 5-11’ 110 pound body of the model I saw it on! :-)
