Dr. Jill Biden 'Thrilled' to Teach

By The Staff at wowOwow.com
Jill Biden/Wikipedia

Bravo to Dr. Jill Biden. The Second lady and educator says she’s "thrilled" with her new job as an English professor at Northern Virginia Community College, where she’ll teach two English courses this semester.

"I am thrilled to return to the classroom to continue working with community college students, whom I greatly admire and enjoy teaching,” Dr. Biden said in a statement, adding, "I am pleased that I can make a difference by doing what I love to do, teaching people who are excited to learn."

Dr. Biden, age 57, holds a doctorate in education from the University of Delaware and has been teaching for 28 years. She always said she wouldn’t leave the field if her husband, Joe, won the vice presidency. And she’s keeping her word! Dr. Biden’s definitely our kind of girl!

I just love the fact that she is a teacher and loves her job. That says so much about Jill and the role she is playing in the lives of these young adults. Wow, this administration is filled with intelligent, smart, savvy professionals. I can’t remember anything of any significance that Lynn Cheney brought to the table over the last 8 years. However my guess is Jill will, through her job and other initiatives alongside Michelle, make her mark.

Dr. Biden is one class act. I saw her (& her husband) on the campaign trail in October. What impressed me was how truely nice they were to everyone (you gotta think by the end of October the campaign trail had to be getting tiresome). The love that they share glows. My 8 yo daughter loved hearing about how Dr.Biden got a puppy after the campaign & how she likes helping people learn so much that she is going to keep teaching. Jill Biden is the kind of person I want my little girl to look up to. I am so glad that the Bush/Cheney glan has left Washington. Still I would not want to say anything bad about Lynn Cheney. If I remember correctly she has written a couple of books while 2nd lady. I think that at least one of them is a children’s book about the Constitution. Mrs. Cheney has always seemed to me to be a very intellegent if reserved lady.

Belinda, I’m disappointed because can usually count on you for a reasonable and thoughtful comment. I applaud Jill Biden for finding a way to be able to continue to pursue her passion and career, but I don’t feel that gives anyone the right to denigrate Lynn Cheney in the same breath. No matter how you feel about Dick Cheney, what you said about Lynn Cheney, an intelligent, productive, and intelligent woman, is completely unfair. Mrs. Cheney not only graduated from Colorado College, she got her M.A. at the University of Colorado - Boulder, and her Ph.D. in 19th century British Literature from the University of Wisconsin - Madison. She founded the American Council of Trustees & Alumni, devoted to reforming higher education. It is committed to freedom of expression and academic excellence in higher education. http://www.goacta.org/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Council_of_Trustees_and_Alumni She also wrote or co-authored over a dozen books, including a novel, over 20 years ago, called Sisters about sapphic love (most interesting because I think it was written before her daughter came out of the closet) She has, repeatedly, spoken out against violent and sexually explicit lyrics (like Tipper Gore) and criticized video game makers for similar content. On the Daily Show, she said she opposed a constituitonal ban against gay marriage. Before her husband became Vice-President, she was a director of Lockheed and Readers Digest, in addition to having co-hosted Sunday’s CNN Crossfire. She also chaired the the National Endowment for the Humanities, which is an independent grant-making agency dedicated to supporting research, education, preservation and public programs in the humanities. ,http://www.neh.gov/ I think we would all do well not to put down other women nor disparage them if we have differences with their spouses.

Lucinda, I said “I can’t remember anything of any significance that Lynn Cheney brought to the table over the last 8 years.” In what way is that denigrating Lynn Cheney? I am well aware of her education and past professional achievements. However as I said, I can’t remember anything of significance she has brought to the table over the last 8 years. All that you have listed in support of her is great, but none of it speaks to significant accomplishments over the last 8 years when her husband was the V.P. You’re right, I don’t like Cheney (well that‘s not true, I do think he’s sexy) let’s say I don’t like his politics. But that has nothing to do with his wife Lynn. I’m not naïve Lucinda, I know I’m not liked by many on this blog, I’m okay with that. So one more person being added to that list will have little impact on me. Take care, Bee.

Belinda, I hope you’re not adding me to the list of people, who dislike you, because that’s completely inaccurate! To the contrary, I can usually count on you for reasonable and thoughtful comments and that was why I was surprised to read what I considered to be a put-down of Lynn Cheney — and I guess I notice a lot of that sort of thing on this blog (not usually from you) and tire of it. In answer to your question though, I think Lynn Cheney stayed out of the limelight and avoided controversy — spent much of her time over the last few years writing a series of best-selling children’s books. By the way, do you really think he’s sexy or was that a joke? (I think we miss out at times when we can’t see people’s faces when they comment or opine!) Depending on the job, it can be tough at times to pursue one’s own career or passions and still give one’s spouse the support s/he needs. I’m happy Jill Biden found a way to spend her time doing what she enjoys.

I agree with you Lucinda she was very low key and did stay out of the limelight, which is my point. You have to remember, she gave up her professional career when Dick was tapped to be V.P. by Bush. That was a move I never understood. She was powerful and influential in her own right, why put that aside just because you are the wife of the V.P. That is when she truly began to blend into the woodwork and I (personally) never heard of her doing anything beyond the books she wrote. I wasn’t knocking her in any way. Yet I stand by my assertion that I am happy to have 4 people at the top of our government who are so accomplished, and I truly can’t wait to see what Jill and Michelle will come up with in terms of education reform of some kind. As for Dick Cheney. No I wasn’t kidding. I know…I know…. everyone teases me about it. I do not know why I think he is yummy, I have no idea. Lord knows he is NOTHING like the men I am usually drawn to. But he has 3 attributes that are dominant that I find super sexy. 1. I am only attracted to men 50 and up. I don’t like that “father fixation” line people use, because that sounds sick to me. I’m just attracted to older men. Now that I’m almost 50 it’s not that much of a stretch. :-) 2. He’s super serious and reserved. I love that. I like intense men. 3. He “had” power. I love men that have a level of power and authority. I can see you rolling your eyes Lucinda, don’t rub it in. I know it’s weird. :-)

Belinda, I am cracking up! In fact, there are tears rolling down my face — there is someone for everyone! :-) When I read what you wrote I thought of Henry Kissinger — wasn’t it he who said power is an aphrodisiac? — and he certainly had his share of women hanging around until he met Nancy, who I think is taller than he is! Actually, I’ve been attracted to all sorts of men, who have caused the jaws of friends of mine to drop — and I can’t explain why, except there is some kind of sex appeal there. So I “get” it! :-) — although my husband is pretty handsome — which may be why I have friends, who have been floored by my comments about men, who are not classically handsome! Intelligence, mystery, sense of humor, being capable — even being fun or just a rascal —can all and each trump beauty at different times — depending on my mood! Having said that, I’ve been married for 20 years and never strayed — but one can look!

Lucinda, thank you for outlining Lynn Chaney’s accomplishments. I knew she had earned a doctorate, written books and served on several boards, but didn’t have the specifics. Belinda, I would be willing to put up some bucks if you could do a Youtube of Chaney lipsinking Rod Stewart’s ‘Do You Think I’m Sexy?’ I don’t have the technical expertise to do that, but maybe you do. We could all have a good-hearted laugh, not meaning to be mean spirited to the former VP, just a little harmless fun with ‘your’ guy.:) Peace and grace

Most of us are complex human beings!!! but if you make the video, be certain to provide us with a link! :-) You never know — you and Lynn may end up with some competition … oh my goodness, what am I thinking!!!!?? :-)

Update: Beth I know you were probably just razzing me about creating a YouTube video of my honey Dick, but I actually went on a hunt for photos to do just that. THERE ARE NO DECENT PHOTOS OF DICK CHENEY ONLINE! I am truly amazed. I knew there would be a wide array of mean spirited photoshop pics featuring him in demeaning ways (he and Bush were not popular among the masses) yet I had no idea how many really bad shots of this hot, sexy and handsome man are out there! I guess it’s true, only me and Lynn Cheney find this man appealing. Color me surprised. :-O

You’re an honorable woman, Belinda, and I was teasing you. I have to tell you that a dear friend of mine with whom I grew up had a fabulous older brother we just idolized. Jim became an outstanding trial lawyer, strong Demoratic presence in strongly Republican county and was charming, funny, caring………..and he looked just like Cheney by the time he was in his sixties. Sadly, Jim passed away last month. Thanks for trying. Peace and grace

What a really lovely lady Jill is and such a down to earth kind of person, she will bring such a refreshing change to Washington. I always thought Lynn Cheney was just a clone of her husband…distant and cold, we are past that kind of thing now thank God, we have 4 people who are warm and interested in the American people at last and that’s been long overdue.

caj p —-I think Jill Biden is a lovely lady and will be well regarded and well received. As to your comment about Lynn Cheney —totally sour grapes. Have you, by any chance taken a good look at her background? She has quite a handsome resume. You might want to check your research before you make such a broad statement. Look it up — you do know how to “google” don’t you? No matter what you thought of Dick Cheney — she is not a clone of her husband. Her intelligence and her background stand on their own merits. I’m not the biggest fan of VP Biden either, however, I do believe that his lovely wife is not his clone! She appears to be a very gifted lady and will stand on her own merits also. Comments like yours make me think —Thank God there are some people on this site who do their research before they make stupid remarks about women. Perhaps you should take a history class (at the high school you are attending) and read up on all the incredible ladies behind the past Presidents and VP in this country — the information would be valuable to you!
