We had our doubts last December when we heard that accused killer Drew Peterson was engaged to his 23-year-old girlfriend. No wonder, because Peterson’s purported fiancé, Christina Raines, admitted that the engagement amounted to nothing more than a hoax.

In an interview this morning with Julie Chen on CBS’s "The Early Show," Raines, now 24, confessed she was never engaged to Peterson, although she did have a relationship with the 55-year-old

When asked how she had come to get engaged to Peterson, Raines responded, "It was never an engagement. It was more like a stunt."

She goes on to describe Peterson as a "kind man" with a gentle demeanor. "He was very kind to me," she said, and made sure to mention that he was never violent. Raines also reveals that she dumped Peterson after hearing that he was the one behind spreading the wedding bell rumors to gain media exposure.

This morning’s clip comes after Raines brought her father — and CBS cameras — to gather her belongings from Paterson’s Illinois home, where she was living. If Raines did tie the knot with Peterson, she would have been wife No. 5! Wife No. 3 was Kathleen Savio. She fell victim to an unsolved homicide in March 2004. Wife No. 4 was Stacy. Where is she? Her questionable disappearance in 2007 was all over the headlines. Illinois police say she is the victim of a potential homicide and have named Peterson their only suspect. Not exactly marriage material, huh? Especially since Peterson’s still legally married to Stacy.
