James, what’s it look like in Michigan?

Michigan’s voting 56% for Obama, 43% for McCain, with 35% of precincts reporting. Proposal 1 for medical marijuana is winning by a landslide, while the stem-cell research proposal 2, is winning 52% to 48%…very close. Long-time incumbent Sen. Carl Levin is winning handily. CNN projects that the U.S. Senate might garner only 58 seats, not the fillibuster-proof 60/40 majority they were hoping for.

Barack Obama’s grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, died after battling cancer just one day shy of seeing her grandson make it to the White House. She was 86 years old.

Our Senator Durbin is up for election today too and his daughter just died a few days ago. Both our Illinois senators are facing election day, one for re-election, one for President of the United States with great sadness in their personal lives.

I really like Dick Durbin and sent him an email as soon as heard over the weekend. She was only 40 and has a husband and young son….very sad. He’s a great Senator.

I love Dick Durbin… and I think we can thank him for Obama too because I have heard it was Durbin who helped convince Obama that his time had come and he should run.

I felt so bad when they announced it this afternoon. He was speaking in FL and it was the first time I have seen him make a slip during a public rally. I saw another clip where he mentioned her passing and then stopped when he was giving a little info about the woman she was and seemed to just catch himself before he wanted to cry. He quickly composed himself and went back on script. That takes a big man. What a blessing it is for Obama to have Joe Biden there with him. He certainly understands loss and grief and moving on with things. I’ll catch you all on the flipside. I will be a zombie after spending the day/night watching the returns. CA
