My state actually went for Obama! No one is more surprised than myself. Hopefully, Florida will no longer be the laughing stock of future elections. Go Gators! I knew I loved this state, even though my county appears to have gone for McCain. Who cares! This is such an affirmation for me. Speaking of affirmations, does anyone know if Al Franken pulled it off in his state? I’m too giddy to Google.

Al was ahead 3-4% earlier, so the race is still on. Al Franken (DFL) 503,673 42% Norm Coleman (R) 492,979 41% Dean Barkley (IP) 183,610 15% If an evolutionary throwback like Bachmann can win in that district, then a bit of reverse-Gerrymandering is in order. It is a funky-shaped district, but dangerously close to mine. I like mine the way it is. Michele Bachmann (R) 82,736 47% El Tinklenberg (DFL) 75,005 43% Bob Anderson (I) 18,056 10% And my gal Betty: Betty McCollum (DFL) 180,648 70% Ed Matthews (R) 79,198 30%

Thanks Steve - Keep me posted. I’m one of those non-cable people, mainly because I could not stand most of the “cable news networks” over the past eight years. I always knew Franken was talented and smart. God, I hope he wins. Must go watch Barry accept his mandate. I LOVE this!

Al Franken is in a dog fight. He was up by 105 votes, then down by 12,000. Now he is less than 10,000 behind, with some solid Democratic precincts yet to report - with the caveat that the Iron Range is also a 2nd Amendment zone there Todd Palin campaigned appealingly. As an aside: if Dean Barkley can keep his 15% of the vote, the Independent Party will get more matching funds in future elections - the Independent Party will be one step closer to recognition as a genuine third party. This will be an all-nighter, so here is a link to the current numbers: http://elections.cbslocal.com/cbs/wcco/20081104/race11.shtml You can track Michele Bachmann here: http://elections.cbslocal.com/cbs/wcco/20081104/race6.shtml

Norm Coleman is ahead of Al Franken by only a few hundred votes. In Minnesota, a win of less than .5% automatically invokes a recount. The final winner will not be known for weeks yet. To give some perspective, Coleman’s lead is 725 votes out of 2,884,975 cast. There were 2,342 WRITE-IN votes. The Constitution Party candidate got 8,893 votes. The Libertarian Party candidate got 13,908 votes. The Independent Party candidate got 437,307 votes. There are 4,130 precincts. The difference is less than 1 vote for every 5 precincts. Coleman has claimed victory and called on Franken to concede in order to save the cost of a recount. He said that he would concede in Franken’s place. Like anyone would believe that. The mayor of Minneapolis called his remark inappropriate. Apparently, Minneapolis ran out of registration forms (we can register at the polls on election day), and Franken wants an investigation of this and other unspecified irregularities. Last time there was a recount, it took 4 months. Both candidates shared the position until a winner was certified. The one who was behind won the election by 91 votes. Our Muslim Representative, Keith Ellison, won big. Better than 3-1. Our mindless Republican, Michele Bachmann, also eeked out a win.

This woman — who was kicked out of restaurants, shouted off a city bus, cursed at and treated like a pariah because of the color of the man she stood beside — this woman can now look at her grandchildren my grandchildren and say, see dear ones, see? Here is a man, much like you … the president of the united states of america.

I just spent the evening Skyping with my old friend Dawna who was my roommate in Vienna in a model’s apartment years ago. She was a black model from Georgia who married a German architect and we watched the election on CNN while on Skype together!!!! What a landmark! What a decision! FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MY ADULT LIFE I AM PROUD TO LIVE NEXT DOOR TO AMERICA! :0 G’Night all. Don’t have a clue what the heck we’ll talk about tomorrow!

McCain just graciously conceded the race to Obama. An eloquent concession speech in Phoenix, noting the “cruel and prideful bigotry” of the past in America. “Let there be no reason for any American to fail to cherish their citizenship in this, the greatest nation on Earth. Sen. Obama has achieved a great thing…..we’ve argued our differences, and he has prevailed. No doubt, many of these differences prevail. These are difficult times for our countries….I urge all Americans who supported me in not just congratulating him, but offering our next presiden tour good will and ways to come together, to find compromise, bridge our differences, defend our security…leave our grandchildren a stronger and better country than we inherited. Whatever our differences, we are all Americans. And believe me, no association has meant more to me than…….The failure is mine, not yours. I’m so deeply grateful to all of you for the honor of your support, and all you’ve done for me….Your support and friendship never wavered. I can never express how indebted I am to you……I am also, of course, very thankful to Gov. Sarah Palin, one of the best governors this country has ever seen. One of the best campaigns I’ve ever seen, and an impressive new voice for our party…..we can all look forward to her future service to Alaska…and our great country….a lost election will never mean more to mean than the privilege of your faith and friendship. …every candidate makes mistakes, and I’m sure I made my share of them, but I won’t spend a moment regretting it…to the American people for giving me a fair hearing, before deciding that Sen. Obama and my old friend, Joe Biden, should lead us….Today, I was a candidate for the highest office in the country that I love so much…Tonight, more than any night, I hold in my heart nothing but love for this country and all of its citizens….I wish God speed to the man who was my former opponent and will be my president. I call on all Americans not to despair on our difficulties…nothing is inevitable, Americans never quit, surrender…we never hide from history….we make history.
