Extremely sad that his grandmother did not make it til the election. So glad he took the time to go to her when he did. Go Obama.

Medical marijuana and stem-cell research are on the ballot in Michigan today, Bee. Gorgeous, sunny, 70-degree weather - how rare for a presidential election up here.

Helped vote in the medical marijuana in Nevada when I lived out there. Never been any good at smoking it, never smoked at all and don’t inhale properly (I would be the one who honestly say I didn’t inhale). But I know what people go through from too many conditions and this is a lot better to help them than drug companies. Good luck up there. Sounds like you have our Texas weather but I believe you will be a beautiful blue state.

Yes, indeedy, Bee. In any other year, McCain might’ve stood a better chance. But it’s so hard to try to separate one’s self from one’s party, and picking Palin ended the charade of McCain being a moderate (oops…maverick). I have bronchial asthma, but any kind of smoke bothers me, especially now that I’ve lived in a smoke-free home for 7+ years. My beloved mother smoked Camel non-filters, and died of lung cancer in August 2001. I was used to being around cigarette smoke, although I often went in the other room when she lit up. Now, my lungs (and eyes) can’t stand to be anywhere near any kind of smoke. That’s another thing…I wore contact lenses for more than 20 years, and, after having Lasik surgery in 2002, my eyes have gotten used to not having anything in them, including smoke.

Anyone curious about the American horoscope for November might enjoy the astrogolydetective.com take on things for election day. Just skim over this post if you’re not interested. I’ll post some of it here(but it is really really long). VERY interesting. She starts off with the word wow, which I thought most apropos! “Wow. All I can say is wow. November is a very pivotal month in so many ways. I have to admit that last month I was a bit bored writing the horoscopes. There just wasn’t much going on. This month I am overwhelmed. Please realise that the turmoil of the recent past is due to some of the very powerful transits that are in exact contact this month. There are a number of rare transits this month, whose power can really be felt for the entire month and beyond. On the days they are exact, they are so on really powerful days with many very strong secondary transits, thereby intensifying the energy of this period. We also have Uranus and Neptune end their retrograde motion, thereby having their planetary energy gain strength and power. Finally, we have one of those generation defining transits, when Pluto enters Capricorn. Pluto defines generations and eras. The Pluto in Sagittarius era was basically the era of terrorism and religious fundamentalism. (Sadge rules both of these things). We are already feeling the transition out of this era and into the Capricorn era. Capricorn is ruled by Saturn, and holds sway over the Saturnian forces of the world. What does Capricorn rule? Big Business, Corporations, CEOs, credit, bankruptcy, mortgages, employers and employment, government, authority in general, financial relationships with foreign countries, trade, political parties, status, the material side of life and finally, fame and famous people. Starting to see a pattern? In hindsight, we will probably be able to look back on this month and see this as when the change really started. During this Pluto in Capricorn era, we will be experiencing a number of rare and altering transits, including a series of Uranus oppositions to Saturn, as well as Uranus squares to Pluto (that is the biggie) and the start of whole new Chiron cycle (happens once every 51 years or so) as well as a new Uranus cycle (happens every 80 years or so). So you can see the ride is just beginning, but while it is changing, it will also shock us out of our complacency into a world where we will really feel alive. We are truly on a precipice of a whole new world order. Pluto is the sign of transformation, and it completely revolutionises whatever it touches. It tends to take the things the sign rules, and completely stand them on its head. Religion isn’t a bad thing, but religious nutcases are. Religion, both of the terrorists and of the “good” Christian people, has kind of run amok during the past decade. I also wrote in my blog about how Pluto transits through Cardinal signs, such as Capricorn, (see blog post Fireside Chat: The Economy IS Going to Hell), see very bad economic times. This included the 70s recession and the Great Depression. Finally, the USA is coming up for its first Pluto return, a momentous period. We can expect the USA to take a new direction, with a new approach to power. There may be some pain and uncertainty during this transition. The new Pluto cycle will last until 2023, and yes, that is a long time. Will big business be torn down, or will it run amok, and, hand-in-glove with the government, assert an even more darker, controlling force on our lives. That is for time to tell, and perhaps the voters to decide. Pluto enters Cap on the same day that there is a new Moon in Sadge, if there is something good about this transit, it is that we are moving on from the terrorism and religious nutcase era. Expect new beginnings and perhaps a change in policy in regards to Iraq or the like. This New Moon is conjunct both Mercury and Mars, positively reinforcing the good vibes, and certain relief in this sector. Even if the economy is jittery there is something positive about moving out of the period of zealotry. In everyday life, this would be a good day to bury the hatchet with old enemies. This peaceful vibe is accentuated by harmonious , diplomatic Venus making positive vibes to Uranus, which will be going direct the next day, spreading the goodwill even more. Uranus opposite Saturn: Election Day Big deal, this is. This is a relatively rare transit and this is the first of a series. Uranus and Saturn will be playing tag a number times between now and 2010. Last time this happened was in the mid-60s, and before that 1920, the dawn of the modern era, filled with flappers and liberation from the past. Uranus opposite Saturn is a call for change to the conservative world order. It can also be a time of riots and civic unrest, even a coup d’etat and changes in government. Remember that John Lennon comment that the Beatles were more popular than Jesus, he made that during a Uranus-Saturn opposition, although the riots it inspired didn’t happen until some months later. As these oppositions will be occurring from now through 2010, the entire period can have a sense of volatility to it. This transit occurs on election day, with Mars squaring Neptune. Mars is the planet of action and Neptune is the planet of delusion, illusion and deceit. Could there be intimidation or even underhandedness during the US elections? Mars square Neptune could also lead to a feeling of powerlessness, maybe people will be denied the right to vote or the polls may close before they cast their ballot. Mercury, the planet of the mind, sextiles Pluto, the planet of power also on this day, signifying that there may well be a cunning plan afoot to grab power or control. The fact that Mercury slithers into Scorpio later in the day, just emphasizes the aura of secrecy that surrounds this day. Could the voting machines be involved? The Mars Neptune square can also lead people to a feeling of losing confidence - a feeling of being let down. I think if things go bad there could be uprisings. But it may be from the Repub supporters, as well, whose hate-filled rallies have shocked many. The Uranus - Saturn opp could represent the fact that those who have held power are now losing it and change, major change is on the horizon. When Uranus and Saturn (traiditon), Uranus (change) normally wins, as it is the heavier hitting planet Obama has Mars and Mercury transitting his 9th house of legal action on election day. I don’t think he will take a loss sitting down. Saying that, Mars will be conjunct his mid-heaven, on the 14th. This transit is powerful enough to feel its effects on the 4th. When a planet passes the mid-heaven it represents career achievement, as it is the highest point of the chart. Mars here is very powerful. Biden has Saturn conjunct his mid-heaven on election day, even more powerful. McCain on the other hand is undergoing his Saturn opposition, hitting his dreams and public service sector. Saturn opps are no fun, and represent an ending in some way. His last Saturn opp coincided with his divorce from his first wife. If there is rioting that breaks out, it may not do so right away, just like the Beatles in the 60s but blow up later, and like that time it was the “good”, well-fed suburbanite people who were rioting against the threat to their status quo ways. There are also 2 rare, but very harmonious aspects this month, which occur approx every 12 years. Jupiter sextile Uranus, on the 13th, which is milder and Jupiter trine Saturn on the 21st.

This is great, Amelie. Except, I disagree about Unanus being a heavier hitter than Saturn. Criminy. Uranus may be harder for Saturn to contol, but Saturn can pack a punch.

Hi Dee. You might want to check her site. I may have edited too much out re: Saturn. It is a really long discussion of the month of November with much much more detail that will fly over most people’s (mine included) heads. But if you know about all this then you may find more details informative. I just cut out some fascinating parts.
