Hasselbeck: Don't Criticize Obama Ladies' Fashion (Video)

By The Staff at wowOwow.com
The View/YouTube

The conservative and often outspoken Elisabeth Hasselbeck shifted her Bush-loving gears yesterday when she defended First Lady Michelle Obama.

Speaking out against the critical media who laid into the First Lady for her Inaugural fashion choices, a somewhat shaken Hasselbeck said, "I think, look, if this is the media’s attempt at trying to be objective as we move into the next administration, they’re moving in the wrong direction."

Hasselbeck went on to praise the fashions that the First Lady and her daughters wore throughout the Inaugural celebrations, both for their affordability and the fact that they were made by American designers. "All these naysayers on the side better find something else to get objective about," she said, i.e., find something else to poke fun at. Yesterday’s remarks remind us of when Hasselbeck said that focus on Sarah Palin’s fashion was "deliberately sexist."

Anyway, here’s video of yesterday’s comments …

Ever since Election Night, the young Republican has displayed her support for the Democratic family. She even spoke on the show about her daughter wanting to cut out a newspaper photograph of the Obamas, frame it and hang it up on her wall.

Well good for her as she is a very staunch Republican we know that, but there will always be people criticizing anything Michelle wears from now on and I doubt she will really care as it comes with the territory Lets face it woman are very critical about other women anyway and Michelle just makes another target for them as she is now the First Lady.

I think she’s a lady who will swing in what ever direction to stay in the media spotlight.

I agree w/ya Debra! I’ve watched her on The View and sometimes I just have to turn the telly off.

Good for Elisabeth! In defending Michelle she has proven to me she isn’t the staunch right winger I believed her to be.

Belinda, I’m not convinced that defending someone’s appearance indicates one’s politics.

I would have to agree with Lee.

I don’t know how well you follow Elisabeth, but she is the staunchest of Republicans and rarely if ever shows any sense of bi-partisanship in the least. She is a Sarah Palin, Ann Coulter type of Republican (i.e. Staunch with a capital S). The fact that she is bringing herself to speak highly of Barack Obama (which she never does) and now also speak highly and defend Michelle, speaks to her ability to set aside her political views and see Barack and Michelle as human beings first and allow politics to take a back seat. What I call staunch right wing Republicans don’t do that. So I applaud her. I’m seeing a slight shift in her political views as it relates to being open to Pres. Obama and his actions thus far. Time will only tell how long her open-mindedness lasts, but I will for one enjoy it while it last. I know you don’t agree Lee and Catherine (and maybe others) but that is the clarification of my opinion on the subject.

Belinda, I think I agree with Green Tears on this thread, who says Elizabeth’s support of Michelle was human rather than political. Maybe some of the people you label “Staunch” are more open minded than you realize.

Remember……….Elisabeth has just started her own Clothing Line………….Maybe she’d like the Obamas as clients.

Elisabeth will do anything if it keeps her in the Limelight.

Good Morning Dona,

What took you back to this old thread now?

well God knows Eliz does not always dress appropriately! wearing sleeveless and strapless dresses during winter, when everyone else was wearing long sleeves..(on The View), and her wearing too small clothing….she is definitely NOT a person I’d emulate fashion-wise! she thinks she is a good dresser and occassionaly “gets” to dress the other women….*ugh* can the others not look in a mirror? she is so tacky. (*yep, she is one woman I can barely stand listening to)… of course she is going to “accept” the new Democrats….how else will she get invited to the White House? *of course, she knows everything about everything…..*ugh*

Elisabeth is, no doubt, a republican but she is a woman first. I agree with her that Michelle’s dress was perfect for her. Her husband approved and that’s really all that matters. As for her children’s clothes, they were adorable. I predict that they will blossom into two very attractive young women. My biggest excitement is imagining how much fun the girls are having both in school and at home.

Elisabeth’s support of Michelle was not political, it was human. Michelle Obama will now be under the ‘public microscope’ 24/7 and no doubt there will be constant scrutiny of everything she wears. I pity her on her first ‘bad hair day’ because it will make headlines. She is beautiful, intelligent and a good mother - for all that America should be pleased and proud!

%$#@* !@&*^!!
First Ladies clothes have always been the subject of comment and always will. A person can believe that Michelle is totally terrific and be grateful that she is First Lady and still say you liked this on her and not that. It’s practically a national sport. Jackie Kennedy got ripped to shreds on the campaign trail and thought the press portrayed her as the spendthrift Deb and Mrs. Nixon as practically whipping up frocks on her own sewing machine between appearances.

I don’t remember ANY First Lady who was not criticized, especially in the first year, for her clothing.
