Elisabeth Hasselbeck Wonders Why Judd Doesn't Fight Abortion (Video)

There’s a new player in the ongoing war between actress Ashley Judd and Sarah Palin.

"The View" co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck apparently threw her weight behind Palin today when, while discussing Judd’s campaign against Palin’s wolf-hunting ways, she scoffed, "The problem I have here is, a lot of these vocal celebrities in a way get very loud about these animal killings. Is she as loud about the 260,000 kids that are killed in abortions?” Hasselbeck’s support for Palin should come as no surprise: The 31-year-old stumped for Palin and Republican running mate John McCain during their unsuccessful White House bid.

Watch Hasselbeck and her colleagues debate the Judd/Palin battle:

EH has a great point. Why is it the abortion crowd cares more about animals than babies? Why is it when you talk to women that have had abortions they always feel regret? What are they regretting if they didn’t do anything wrong.

My reply is to the comment “that when you talk to women that have had abortions they always have regret”. I can say with great conviction that this statment is an outright lie.. Men should not be allowed to have an opinion on abortions. I am so tired of men who have no idea what a women is feeling telling us all what she is feeling.

Noreen: “Men should not be allowed to have an opinion on abortions.” That’s pretty mean. How can they not? Oh, right, they should have no feelings for a baby unless it’s delivered. That’s it! Deny their affection, permit no fatherly concern one second before that moment. Maybe this kind of thinking is what puts women into the position of feeling forced to abort in the first place—no support from the man. As a woman, however, I have known of many women who live their lives in different layers of grief from the knowledge they’ve aborted their own children away. So what he said actually is quite common and not the “outright lie” you’d like it to be. The problem comes when other women try to silence these women from telling their stories. This forces the pain into a tighter and tighter spot. One of the best ways to promote healing is to help others. In this case, help others not make the same mistake they did. For whatever reason, you want silence on this matter like a dictator wants to stop dissent. This is “freedom?” No, I think you have an agenda to sell other women which does not allow a voice to their regret, guilt, sadness, anger, confusion, etc. If only killing was so simple! There’s a reason why it’s not.

Ughhhh is right, yet sooooo predictable. I knew what EH would say the minute the subject of defending animals came up, before she even spoke a word. What about the 200,000 children killed by abortions? What about helping the homeless? Why not help the starving, help stop the genocide in Darfur, etc? Like rote, these are always the first words out of anyone’s mouth who is not an animal advocate, when they meet someone who is. Ignorance, plain and simple…and a bit jealousy, I believe. After all animal advocacy and environmentalism are two hugely growing movements, unmatched by any other. To EH and all those alike, I say to comments like yours: “You’re absolutely right, the poor, the starving, the homeless, the battered and abused, and even the unborn need and deserve our help….and animals too. Since you bring up the subject of abortion (in this instance) please tell me what are YOU doing to help this cause, which you obviously feel so passionate about? Are you donating your time and money speaking up on behalf of the unborn, educating others and recruiting new membership? Great! Then we have something in common! There are over 300 million people in this country and nearly as many causes that need passionate and empathetic people like you and me to volunteer our time; to stand up and fight for them. Of that 300 million I’d say animal advocates and environmentalists make up only a handful, although we are constantly working to enlighten ALL. Why don’t you work just as hard to do the same for whatever cause you feel passionate about instead of belitteling those who choose a different path than yours? What good does that do anyone or anything? I’m hopeful one day you will be wise enough to see the whole picture. I am an avid animal advocate who donates what I can afford and volunteers often for numerous animal groups, because that is what I choose to do with my free time and money. I will NEVER apologize for, or allow anyone to make me feel guilty about, that choice. Here’s a story of someone very dear to me, my hero and sister Paula, who choose a different path than I ,and who would never belittle me for mine, nor would I for hers. Find a cause to support which will enrich your life while enriching someone else’s, and the world will be a better place. http://www.sdranchcoastnews.com/new/cmv_dm_pages/cmv_dm_feature/ft6.html

Slim Pickins: I like your posts. The animals are lucky to have you. Remember the show “MASH? I liked it a lot. In junior high school, one of my girlfriends told me I should marry a guy who was just like Radar O’Reilly. The reason being was a particular line he said in one episode I think you’ll appreciate: “Animals are people too, you know!” I’ve always had a heart for the underdogs of this world. I bet you’ve always been that way, as well.

OMG!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I’ve been expressing this same view. There is no issue bigger than the other. We all have the right to be compassionate about something we see as important. EH showed bad form to kick up such an issue and throw it around so carelessly. Again, thank you.

Well, it’s just my humble opinion, and I don’t usually get involved in conversations revolving around EH, because she annoys the hell out of me and just jumps right in with both feet, having no grip on reality. I personally think she had her 15 minutes of fame, and needs to step OFF the soapbox. Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!

I gave up watching The View because of EH. She doesn’t want abortions to be an option for women, but at the same time, she is against comprehensive sex ed. She had a fit one day about teaching sex ed to children. Does she know what they learn? Not how to put on a condom, but to name their body parts correctly, to not talk to strangers, and who are safe people to talk to if someone does something to them that is harmful. And as for women regretting abortions…. yup, I won’t deny that they probably do. But more so, they regret having to be in the situation to have to make that decision. I was a counselor in an reproductive health clinic for 8 years, and I never met a women who thought ending her pregancy was fun, easier, or right. It was just what they thought they needed to do in order to get through. I talked with rape victims, woman in violent relationships, older women, young women, all races, all ages. Some women changed their minds after knowing what their options were and what resources were available. Some were totally against abortion before they found themselves with an unplanned pregnancy. All were incredibly saddened by the decisions that they had to make. It is a terrible place to be in and a terrible decision to make. No one wants to have an abortion, but most want to know that the option is there. I learned early on that although I don’t think that I would ever have an abortion, I know that until I am in the position to have to make a decision, I just really don’t know.

Well, nobody is permitted to care about anything other than abortion, obviously.

Well, as a preliminary matter, her statistic of how many abortions are performed, is total bullshit. The majority of abortions are performed privately, and medical records are not available to every low-life street preacher like this one. Like most of her other “facts,” she apparently made this number up. Or is using some clown like R.L. as her authority.

Who specifically gets the abortion is not public record, but the number most certainly is. However, I agree EH could have brought the convo around to that a little less obviously later on, and for the time being focused on the first, more pertinent comment on the panel to the effect of, “What does the general salvation of animals have to do specifically with SP?” Unfortunately, I don’t know enough about Judd’s background and beliefs to attack them in return, but that would be the equivalent response to this PSA. Population control is sometimes necessary, that’s the “science” of it. While I think shooting animals without a clear aim and fatal shot is wrong, there are lots of people out there who do it. Let’s focus on the problem at hand (educating people on animal suffering) and not call out individuals, unless we as individuals would like to be dragged into the arena of public scrutiny ourselves.

Good point, Marina. And EH talks as if caring about one is exclusive to caring about the other. Who is to say that some animal-rights activists aren’t also pro-life? It’s not as if all animal-rights people are one big robot crowd.
