No matter where you come down on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, there is no debate about our country’s devotion and gratitude to the men and women who have lost their lives in service to America.

This Fourth of July, the Women on the Web takes a moment for a solemn salute to the ultimate wowOwow women: the 110 female soldiers who have lost their lives in the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts. Our hearts go out to their families and friends, and we stand humbled by and proud of a nation and a culture able to produce daughters so brave and so honorable.

This Fourth of July, the Women on the Web takes a moment for a solemn salute to the ultimate wowOwow women.

The number of fallen women in today’s conflicts outstrips the female death toll in the Korean, Vietnam and Desert Storm confilcts combined.  According to the Women in Military Service for America Memorial Foundation, eight women died in the line of duty in Vietnam and 16 died during Desert Storm in Kuwait. Today, women make up 15 percent of America’s active duty forces and, as a result, the death toll among women soldiers has significantly climbed to where it stands today, July 2, 2008, at 110.

These are the true daughters of the American revolution, the revolution that has allowed women to shatter glass ceilings in all walks of life … even when the consequence is heartbreaking.

I am not a proponent of war. Having said that, I can honor those who are giving so much in our military. I started to watch the slide show of the fallen women and had to stop after about 10 or 11 of them. I could feel my heart sinking and my mind getting more upset. While tears are welling up, I realize that I can’t take seeing all of those sweet smiles knowing that these women died for a war that I believe is all about oil. How sad! My heart goes out to each and every family left behind with such grief. We MUST stop this war!

What about the fatherless children Mark! DAmn!

Frank—The developmental damage to children is far greater losing a mother. Israel which has a much higher percentage of female soldiers than America drafts only unmarried women and those without children.

That’s a lie, Mark.

Klein, how dare you make such a measured distinction as to whether it’s better for a child to lose a mother or father. Crawl back into that little hole you came out of, dude.

Why do you guys answer him. This is a thread about Fallen soldiers and then everyone has to get in there and argue with Mark Klein. Let him post what he wants and let it go. If you don’t like him, don’t read him. The whole page ended up being about Mark and what everyone doesn’t like about him. He doesn’t want to learn anything from us. Everyone participating in “getting Mark” just took the respect away from those women who lost their lives. Mark’s ideas are none of our business. Who cares? You can honestly answer me that this is life altering and career shattering? This has nothing to do with us - his ramblings have to do with him.

Cherokee Rose—Your comment reflects the resentment women have about receiving criticism. Yet women have no problem criticizing men 24/7! We made a very big mistake fully integrating the armed forces. We’ve created legions of neglected, inadequately mothered children of servicewomen. I have no problem with single women without children serving. FYI drafted at 18 my daughter made sergeant in the Israeli Army during her 21 months of service. Now pregnant and raising 3 children couldn’t imagine how my grandchildren could be adequately cared for were she in the army now. The feminist movement is intellectually and morally bankrupt.
