Farrah Fawcett’s Odd and Possibly Ground-Breaking Cancer Movie

Farrah Fawcett is suffering from a rare form of cancer … anal cancer. As if that alone wasn’t enough to make you faint, read on.
According to the Internet Movie Database, IMDB, Farrah has teamed up with producer/director Craig J. Nevius to produce a documentary that shows it all: her radiation sessions, her travels to Europe for special treatments, her struggle to control her story, the works. According to reports, the documentary is in post-production and being shopped around to the television networks for a fall ‘08 airing. Most of it was shot by Farrah herself, boyfriend Ryan O’Neal and assorted friends; a home movie, in other words.
One could dismiss this as yet another fading celebrity using anything and everything — no matter how craven and horrifying — to stay in the spotlight.
But in an erratic, crazy yet artful, typically far-out Farrah sort of way, there’s something potentially important here. Remember that in between “Charlie’s Angels” and that incoherent interview on “Late Night with David Letterman” this was the woman who garnered three Emmy nominations for her breakthrough exploration of wife-beating in “The Burning Bed.”
Could it be that “A Wing and a Prayer” has the potential to expand further the boundaries of what’s tasteful and what’s sensational, what’s personal and private, and what’s mainstream versus just plain weird in a You Tube world? And in so doing, is it allowing Farrah to exert unusual celebrity control over her own story?
Maybe. We’re kind of in awe. In a creeped-out, can’t-wait-to-see-it-on-the-tube kind of way.
