Florida Army Mom Gets Christmas Miracle

Talk about a Christmas miracle.

A Florida Army mom returned home from overseas Tuesday and was greeted by her four-year-old daughter, Cheyenne, at the airport. That in and of itself would have been a wonderful Christmas gift for Cyd Leslie, a 24-year-old Army specialist who has served in Iraq and Afghanistan. But to make it sweeter, little Cheyenne — who was barely able to walk on her own for years after being diagnosed with cerebral palsy — actually ran to her mom.

"I’ll never forget this feeling," Leslie said moments after Cheyenne bounded into her arms. "I never thought I’d see it."

AP reports that Leslie had only seen video of her daughter’s first successful attempts of walking on her own. Before Leslie’s mother, Dominga Leslie — who has been caring for her two grandchildren while her daughter is overseas — found Therapies 4 Kids, doctors had said Cheyenne could eventually be wheelchair bound. She would watch forlornly as other kids played on seesaws, swings and the slide. It broke Dominga and Cyd’s hearts.

They prayed for a miracle, and got it through the kids’ physical-therapy program. Not only did can Cheyenne now walk and run, her speech is also getting better. When she sees airplanes overhead, she would say: "Airplane, bring my mommy home."

This is such a blessing for their family. I don’t know how Therapies 4 Kids receives their funding to operate, but I pray its not solely through grants or donations. I would hate to think their noble efforts would be affected because of a lack of funds.

This is a wonderful story of Cheyenne’s “miracle” and I am so happy that she has partially overcome her handicap and is now able to walk, run and her speech is improving. However as a military officer’s wife of 30 years I do not approve of women with children enlisting in the military, probably having to go overseas and leave her children in the care of others. Children need their mothers, especially when they are small. It is impossible to bond with an absent mother. I am glad the grandmother was able to do this for Cheyenne.
