Florida Mom Named Suspect in Tot Caylee Anthony's Disappearance

A Florida mother is being investigated for killing her own three-year-old daughter.
Investigators have named Casey Anthony a suspect in the mid-June disappearance of her daughter, three-year-old Caylee Anthony, CNN reports. Police previously called Anthony a "person of interest." She didn’t report the three-year-old child’s disappearance until mid-July – a month after the tot went missing.
"Casey is a suspect," said Orange County Sheriff’s Department Capt. Angelo Nieves. "She has been uncooperative, leading investigators down the wrong path and lying to them. She has not provided any credible information about the last time she saw her or where she was left."
Casey Anthony of Orlando, FL, was arrested on July 16 on suspicion of telling detectives lies about Caylee’s disappearance and for child neglect. She was released on bail after that arrest and subsequent arrests on unrelated theft charges. On September 15, Orange County, FL, investigators arrested her for criminal use of personal information and other charges in connection with the investigation of her illegal use of a friend’s bank account.
Casey Anthony’s arraignment for check fraud — initially set for Thursday — has been rescheduled for October 14, the Orlando Sentinel reports.
Authorities said weeks ago that evidence suggests Caylee is dead; evidence of human decomposition and chloroform were found in Casey Anthony’s car. Police sources also suggested that a strand of hair found in the trunk of the car was Caylee’s, and authorities discovered Internet searches of chloroform websites on the mother’s computer.
The Sentinel also reports that residents of the subdivision where the Anthony family lives asked the Orange County Commission for money to help them quiet protesters and onlookers they say are disrupting the peace.
"I will not dignify these miscreants by calling them ‘protesters,’" said Mark NeJame, the attorney for Caylee’s grandparents, Cindy and George Anthony. "They would not know the Constitution if they threw that against their [the Anthonys] home."
