Fran Drescher Still Considering 2010 NY Senate Run

Fran Drescher’s still holding out hope for a future career in politics.

Known by many for her role in the 1990s sitcom "The Nanny," the Queens-born actress said last fall that she would like to be considered for Hillary Clinton’s Senate seat. She obviously didn’t get that — Rep. Kirsten Gillibrand did — but Drescher told US News and World Report that she’s not giving up her senatorial aspirations.

"It is something that I am very seriously contemplating," Drescher told the Whispers blog. She also doesn’t seem fazed by the fact that Gillibrand is a great fund-raiser and a favorite among upstaters. "I could set up very quickly if I throw my hat in the ring," says the cancer survivor and advocate. "I feel like I can generate an interesting, and even a crossover, mix of people who would come to my support."

Meanwhile, New York Rep. Carolyn Maloney, who made it very clear to New York Gov. David Paterson she wanted Clinton’s seat, is staying mum over whether she will challenge Gillibrand in 2010, even though many reports say she’s good and ready for a fight.

"Right now, I am working on creating jobs in my district and across the country," the Long Island representative told MSNBC today when asked whether she would run.

Well, we definitely need all the help we can get in that area!

Perhaps Palin’s voice desensitized us enough to be able to handle Fran’s voice.

Palin sounds like Greer Garsen compared to Fran Drescher. At least she doesn’t speak through her nose.

What that screechy voice of Palin’s —horrible to my ears. I’d rather listen to wolves howling that that idiot.

I don’t know what she’s been doing, so I don’t know what, if any, political chops she has. The main reason I know nothing about what she’s bee doing is that I have to change the channel as soon as I hear her voice, which is THE worst I’ve ever heard. On the whole, though, I would say that the celebrity types should stick with using their celebrity to draw attention to their pet projects. I don’t remember any good ever coming out of an entertainer in public office. Maybe Clint was a good mayor of Carmel?

I know why she want to do it. The attention! attention! and the attention. Maybe Hollywood isn’t giving her enough attention.

I say all the best to her! She will have to work 10 times harder and present herself in a completely authoritative manner if she wants to garner any respect. Her acting career is not one that speaks to her seriousness on issues, to the contrary she is known for “fluff’ I’ve heard her “real” voice and it is normal and not at all the whiney caricature she is known for. This is a woman that survived being raped at gunpoint. Survived cancer. She is clearly a woman who has lived through a lot and can speak to a segment of society that will listen. Who she is today will have to be so powerful and dynamic, that it all but obliterates the image we have come to know of Fran Drescher. I think it can be done, but it won’t be easy.

I hope that Fran Drescher has more going for her than the image she now generates. Her voice like Sarah is a distraction. Barney Frank also has a voice that sometimes negates what he is saying. Other celebrities that have gotten elected to public office are packaged better for lack of a better word. I wish her the best.

The Scottie won best in the terrier class. He was my fave; the second was the Westie and then the Dandy Dinmont. I have a soft spot for the Scotties because we had one for 14 yrs, and she was wonderfully loyal, loved the kids and was an integral part of the family. It broke our hearts when I had to put her to sleep. That was back in ‘83, and I havent’ had any doggies since. Yes, after Obama’s press conference, I was on the Westminster, and this is at least 28-30 years I’ve watched it.

I say, let her run. It might be entertaining if peple can stand to listen to her speak, and god forbid, that she laughs. She’s a high school graduate and bet she is a font of knowledge. I think she will make a fool of herself without even knowing it. Celebrities and their large egos, but there are always those who think they would be perfect in whatever their political ambitions lead them to, as in Sarah
