Gardasil for Gents?

The HPV vaccine Gardasil, which helps prevent cervical cancer in women, may soon be given to men to ward off a common STD.
According to findings released Thursday by Merck & Co, which makes the vaccine, Gardasil has proven highly successful in preventing genital warts in men.
A Merck-organized research team studied 3,400 males ages 16 to 26 and found that 90 percent fewer men developed genital warts and other lesions after receiving the vaccine.
Gardasil is currently FDA-approved to treat females ages 9 to 26 years to prevent cervical cancer, and Merck plans to ask the FDA later this year to approve Gardasil’s use in males ages 9 to 26 to prevent genital warts. That would be good news for everyone. As you may or may not know, warts are extremely contagious, quite common and can infect both men and women.
