Georgia on Sarah Palin's Mind

Sarah Palin was back on the stump Monday, campaigning for Georgia incumbent Sen. Saxby Chambliss – a Republican who is in the fight of his life to keep his seat.

Chambliss is hoping Palin’s star power can get him some votes.

“The eyes of the nation are on you, Georgia. And the eyes of the nation are on what happens here tomorrow, what direction our country will go. Much depends on the vote that is taken here in Georgia,” Palin told a crowd Monday morning.

She also gave a shout out to her former running mate, McCain, who has campaigned for Chambliss as well, since his presidential loss to Barack Obama.

“It was just like Sen. McCain to put defeat behind him and see what more he can do for the United States Senate and to see what more he can do to progress this great nation,” the Alaska governor said, noting that more than two million Georgians voted for McCain-Palin in the White House race.

“We were honored to carry the state of Georiga. Thank you. So now we need you to do it again, Georgia."

Martin is scheduled to campaign in Georgia Monday with prominent Georgia Democrats but the end of his day will feature a unique guest: Atlanta rapper Ludacris.

Chambliss is pulling out the big guns – Palin, John McCain, Rudy Giuliani, and others – in his fight to defeat Democratic opponent Jim Martin in this runoff election. Georgia is a vital race for the Democrats to win. If they wrest Georgia and Minnesota from Republicans, Democrats will have the supermajority in the Senate – the 60 seats needed to overcome a filibuster. Georgia’s runoff election is Tuesday.

In Minnesota, incumbent Republican Sen. Norm Coleman is battling Democratic comedian Al Franken for the spot.

Meanwhile, Politico.com reports that although many have pondered a "Palin in 2008" presidential run, public polling shows that declining support for the hockey mom from the political center may threaten her White House ambitions.

"It would be a mistake to say that social conservatives have all their hopes and dreams vested in Sarah Palin," said Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission President Richard Land. But he acknowledged that Palin is a star with conservatives, and she "does have the one thing you can’t coach, charisma."

On the other Palin/Georgia thread, Diana posted the following article which gives and excellent perspective on why Palin, of all people, should have thought twice before standing behind this man. http://community.adn.com/adn/node/135064

DeB, Thank you so much…you read my mind. What this guy said about Max Cleland goes beyond all decency. I personally hope he loses his ass, no matter what Big Guns are down there doing the rah-rah routine. There have always been lingering questions about that whole election scene anyway: http://www.atlantaprogressivenews.com/news/0403.html http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=Max_Cleland

Sarah just never goes away. I must say however that I AM looking forward to Barbara Walters special on Thursday night though. I understand that Barbara is having the 10 most interesting people and Sarah is one of them. Then, I’ll be looking forward to wowOwow on Friday because you know she’s going to mess up. It’s in her nature. She may be a good speech reader but when it’s all natural, no script, she will put her foot in her mouth.

Joan: Get use to Sarah Palin, she will be in national politics for the next 30 years. Being a woman, Sarah Palin is an advocate for you. She has never lied to you. As far as messing up, when a professional journalist like Couric has the opportunity to ask Paling anything she wants, she harps on what newspapers and magazines she reads. Couric is lame. Obama is the script reader. Without it, he’s like a lost sheep. Larry King, Oprah, Barbara Walters, all want to interview Sarah Plain. Do you believe their only reason is to ask the gotcha question? Grow up. The U.S. is suppose to the be the most enlightened and educated country in the world. People from all over want to move and call our country home. If the treatment of Sarah Palin is your example of the American spirit, you should all be ashamed of yourselves.

Being a woman, Sarah Palin is an advocate for you.” Oh yeah Frank… so does that mean, being a man Barack Obama is an advocate for you? Or, being a man Dick Cheney is an advocate for you? Or, being a man Joe Biden is an advocate for you? Or, being a man Rush Limbaugh is an advocate for you? You should be ashamed of yourself for being such a sexist in the year 2008 that you think women must support every woman in politics no matter what her views, intellect or agenda. I suppose if Nancy Pelosi was running for president and a bunch of women in here started criticizing HER you would come to her rescue and accuse them of bad “American spirit”. Right.

DeBurca: You voted for Hillary in the primaries, she lost. You had an opportunity to put a woman in the Whitehouse. Who are you women waiting for? Hillary knows her husband gropes everything that breathes, thens stands there with that stupid grin on her face, and acts like nothing happened. She’s a sap. You know as well as I do that Nancy Pelosi is a joke. If Nancy Pelosi ran for president, I would criticize any man or woman that supported her. We know that will never happen. Sexism means I discriminate because of gender. You got me wrong younglady. Do your homework before you try and put someone down. You yourself exemplify the kind of bad American spirit that the world sees as morally reprehensible. Pat yourself on the back. I tell the truth, you’re just another bullshitter.

Do YOUR homework. I am a white woman, 51 years old and I voted for Barack Obama in the Primary… so you can stop making assumptions based upon generalizations. Your idea of having “bad American spirit” explains why you would be so blindly thrilled with Palin and so naive to think that women should support her merely because she is a woman.

DeBurca: I hope you’re not planning on responding to me 8 times a day. I believe you voted for Hillary in the primaries. You’re too old to have voted for a black person. You said I was blindly thrilled because of Palin. Now you assume I supported her because of her good looks. Lets not make no mistake about it, she is a good looking woman. Lets compare Hillary and Palin. Palin is the most popular governer in the U.S. Last year her approval rating was in the 90’s, probably the most popular public official in any state. She doesn’t lie about her feelings towards abortion to gain anyones votes, she tell it like it is. You don’t have to like her, but she is real, truthful, a breath of fresh air. Now for Hillary. I’ll provide you with a few articles to read regarding the Clintons. Lets see, Billy has screwed everything that breaths for the past 30 years. It is said he has had well over 100 affairs. He screwed Monica Lewinsky 9 times in the Whitehouse. She was only 21 at the time. Hillary just stood there like the putz she is. http://www.io.com/~cjburke/clinton/clinatoz.html As for Obama. I’d like to read his college thesis, Michelle Obamas is available on the internet. Why can’t the American people read our presidents college thesis? How controversial could it be? He has so many skeletons in the closet, we’ll never know the whole story behind this guy. The answer to your qusetion; Should women vote for Palin just because she is a woman? The answer is YES. 96% of the blacks in this country voted for Obama. Same difference.

I voted for Obama in the Primaries just as I said. You need to stop believing the stats you read in polls.

And yet again Frank, you didn’t answer my question: … so does that mean, being a man Barack Obama is an advocate for you? Or, being a man Dick Cheney is an advocate for you? Or, being a man Joe Biden is an advocate for you? Or, being a man Rush Limbaugh is an advocate for you?

DeBurca: That is a stupid question. All presidents as well as vice presidents should be advocates for everybody. With Palin there is a difference. She would’ve been a true advocate for women, not some joker that says one thing then hops in the sack with a 21 year old intern, a la Bill Clinton. Men look at women as objects, you wouldn’t have had that feeling with Palin. Don’t ever think Obama would’nt look down a womans shirt if he could. He’s like the rest of us. Use your head.

You “use your head”. Palin is not an “advocate for women” just because she IS one.

It’s ironic that men in this women’s blog are more feminist than the women. BTW, I am a man. What’s with American women? You give them an intellectual former First Lady, they tore her apart. You give them a folksy and charming VP candidate, they would have none of her. More like girlie sisterhood, of the elementary and high school days, ganging up a not-like-us girl. It’s that CRAB MENTALITY, sistahs! Your cause (now lost) may never find its road if you continue to tear each other part. There’s no perfect lady candidates, just like men, in politics. Look, some 3rd world countries have elected less-than perfect lady Presidents or Prime Ministers. And you consider US the best of democracy? Big deal. Truly, sexism is the last frontier in the US. And that is because of American bitchy ladies!

Supporting a woman just because she is a woman isn’t “feminist”.
