Republican Senator: Ginsburg Could Be Dead in 9 Months

US Senator Jim Bunning needs a lesson on tact. The Kentucky-based Republican this weekend told some of his party that U.S. Supreme Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg would likely be dead within nine months. The remarks were made at a Hardin County Republican Party’s Lincoln Day Dinner. Ginsberg announced earlier this month that she had surgery for her pancreatic cancer, but will reportedly be back on the bench today.

The news led some to speculate whether President Obama would have to appoint a new justice sooner, rather than later. But, according to the Louisville Courier-Journal, Bunning obviously had no qualms about coming right out and saying that may have to happen "very shortly" because of Ginsburg’s cancer. "Bad cancer. The kind that you don’t get better from," he told a group who would love to see a conservative judge take her place. "Even though she was operated on, usually, nine months is the longest that anybody would live after (being diagnosed) with pancreatic cancer."

Conservative and liberal groups are preparing to go to battle over the next Supreme Court nominee. President Bush appointed two judges during his terms — Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Samuel Alito, and liberals are hoping they can get another one of their own on the bench. Meanwhile, women’s groups want to see another female in the post — particularly with the loss of swing-vote Sandra Day O’Connor.

Regardless of the political jockeying, the fact of the matter is that Ginsburg’s very much alive and her courage should be applauded.

That’s not fair and not true. I have seen more intolerance on the left over the past few years than I have ever seen on the right. If people on the right DARE speak our opinions (even on this site) we are called racist, anti woman, etc. Although I like many of your posts, I find you quite intolerant. Looking forward to your reply (I know I’ll get one…)

You really need to stop looking a Fox News—The only thing I’m intolerant of is Rethugs.

You are intolerant to a whole group of people. I actually turned Fox off when Coulter came on. I can think for myself, ya know. To call us "rethugs" is really quite offenisve. I could resort to name calling, too, but I think that intelligent arguments should usurp bashing others. If you read my posts, I try to uplift anyone (dem or repub) who are getting bullied on this site. It’s one thing to state your view and opinion and another to get so flustered that the other side isn’t swayed by your arguments that you have to name call and be ugly. Come on, Frank, I KNOW you can do better.

If by a whole group of beings called repubs then yes you are correct. As for name-calling well trailer trash do stand low from the ordinary citizen by their rude ways, speech and behaviour.  As for Rethugs i think it’s very apropos and very accurate descriptively. Sorry ‘bout that— call ‘em like I see  ’em. See I learned from them how to trash a person—this site used to be very civil—yes we had our arguments but they were resolved amicably generally. but we also talked art and literature, Now all that’s on this site is Palin, Jindal and the return of the dark ages.  So pardon me if i don’t goose-step with the rest of the rethugs. As for bullying look to Alex AKA Jim Henley aka whoever because it started with him and his ilk and I won’t sit still and have the proto-fascists insult good friends of min. Isn’t ever going to happen—ever.

Well, you are here and you’re not discussing the arts. You are discussing Palin and Jindal. I would think if you thought you were better than us trailer trash folk, you’d find yourself a much more sophisticated site. It is people, like you, that give Democrats a bad name. I enjoy these articles, if I don’t like them, I don’t read them and I don’t reply. I am sorry if we are holding a gun to your head (you know us, Second Amendment freaks) and forcing to to reply to things that are beneath you, but such is life. Argue with you on the next post…

Holding a gun to my head—that’ll be the day—I’ve had better than any of you try the in the Nam.  As for arguing, you rethugs don’t have the faintest idea how to argue intelligently. It is people like me who fought for your freedom and you still haven’t learned anything from that or from anything else.  I pity you imbecility.

My husband, brother, grandfather, father, uncles, etc also fought/are fighting for my freedoms. Many in Vietnam. So you are a traitor my friend. My Uncle (who watched his friend’s head get blown off in Vietnam) wouldn’t look at you to spit in your general direction. It is I who pity YOUR imbecilty, sir. I’ve heard nothing intelligent from you so I guess you are no better.

How old are you again?! My grandfather was in Nam and he is 10 times more respectful than you. Are you having a bad day? Unemployed? What gives?
