Message to All Whining Female Democrats: Hillary's Out. Get Over It, by Barbara Goldsmith

Editor’s Note: Barbara Goldsmith is a prize-winning bestselling author and historian. She served on the Presidential Commission for the Celebration of Women in America History during President Clinton’s administration.

"Whoever is set up to be president of the United States is just set up to have his character torn off from his back in shreds and to be mauled, pummeled and covered with dirt by every filthy paper all over the country. And no woman that was not willing to be dragged through every kennel, and slopped into every dirty pail of water like an old mop, would ever consent to run as a candidate. Why, it’s an ordeal that kills a man. It killed General Harrison and it killed old Zach [Taylor]. And what sort of … a woman would it be that could stand it and come out of it without being killed?"

So commented Harriet Beecher Stowe when Victoria Woodhull announced her bid for the presidency in 1872.

The place: a distinguished publisher’s Park Avenue apartment. The date: Wednesday, June 18. The time: 8:45 AM. The occasion: a breakfast hosted by Gloria Steinem. The stated objective: to bring the Women for Barack Obama and the Hillary Clinton supporters into one cohesive group.

These emotional outbursts ... are just what male chauvinists say about woman's incapacity to coolly assess a situation.

The little blonde stood, arms akimbo, and vented her wrath: "I am a good friend of Hillary’s," she declared. "I’ve had her at my home, and I have always been there for her. I am here to tell you how angry and hurt I am and how hurt all Hillary supporters are by the sexist, disgusting way Hillary was attacked and pilloried by the media in this campaign. Until some acknowledgment of that is made, I am full of anger. I know the Democratic Party could have stopped it. I know Obama could have stopped it. But, everyone was silent and just let it happen and …"

Next up: a professor who took a full six minutes announcing her credentials and then said, "I used up my entire pension supporting Hillary. I went to 13 states and knocked on doors. I want everyone in this room to write in the name of Hillary Clinton on the ballot when they go to vote and …"

Another woman announced that she intended to launch a boycott of MSNBC. "I want all of you to sign my petition."

The chairperson of "Women for Obama," Becky Carroll, had flown in from Chicago and said she was tired. You’d be tired too with all that invective flying around the room. But Ms. Carroll couldn’t very well intervene, if catharsis was what was needed to unite Democratic women. Ms. Carroll was in a tough position – too tough to point out that Hillary Clinton had announced that her supporters should "take our energy, our passion, our strength and do all we can to help elect Barack Obama …" These emotional outbursts — and there were several more — are just what male chauvinists say about woman’s incapacity to coolly assess a situation.

Please note that so far there’s been no "I" word in my comments. The "I did this, I did that, I am hurt, I may not vote, I may vote for McCain," and so forth that have been heard lately may be what’s holding Democratic women back from fulfilling their potential to become a powerful coalition that could help guide this country back to safer ground.

If you’re trying to make a point, Fox News is not a good starting point, credibility wise. He’s talking about death penalty for child rapists, not Roe v Wade. Furthermore, he’s talking as a defense attorney, not a democrat. You may be confused?

No, I don’t think so. He’s a democrat state representative. http://www.mass.gov/legis/member/jhf1.htm . I’m pretty sure that’s a local fox affiliate, not fox news. My comment on Roe was complimenting another poster who said it’s settled law and was distinct from the point that the Democrat Party has a strong insidious undercurrent of misogyny, the same way some people might say the Republicans have an undercurrent of racism, and its in moments like the one above, like during the primary day after day, like on Chris Wallace or Ketih Olberman’s shows, like on message boards at liberal blogs, that it comes out and you see how Democrats really feel about women [in this case young girls and boys.] The Democrats are horribly sexist, and until that becomes as insulting as being called racist, I don’t want anything to do with them. They can’t buy me off with Roe.

Dan Are you saying that in Jessica’s Law there is a death penalty clause? I heard yesterday that death penalty for child rapists was voted down.

No Frannie, I was confused and took it out on my keyboard. Mind you, I wouldn’t be heart broken if Jessica’s Law had a death penalty provision, but here in Massachusetts that looks like a lost cause (The Death Penalty in general). However, if some mother or father got their hands on somebody who raped their child, I think they’d want me on the jury, as I’d have a hard time convicting them.

Well, I guess that you can’t vote for McCain now, since you despise misogyny. The following actually came from the candidate, whereas your clip came from obscure state senator. McCain Gambles with Awkward Joke June 27, 2008 7:38 AM In an interview with the Las Vegas Sun, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., was asked by columnist Jon Ralston why he didn’t choose Gov. Jim Gibbons to chair his Nevada campaign. “I appreciate his support,” McCain said. “As you know, the lieutenant governor is our chairman.” Why snub the governor? Ralston asked. “I didn’t mean to snub him,. I’ve known the lieutenant governor for 15 years and we’ve been good friends,” McCain said. “I didn’t intend to snub him. There are other states where the governor is not the chairman.” Maybe it’s the governor’s approval rating and you are running from him like you are from the president? Asked Ralston in a question McCain clearly found loaded. Said McCain, chuckling, “And I stopped beating my wife just a couple of weeks ago.” Some have found the subject of McCain’s joke — wife-beating — inappropriate. To be clear, McCain was alluding to the fictitious leading question “When did you stop beating your wife, senator?” It’s a bit of distasteful DC yuckery so commonly quoted it’s hackneyed. But considering the subject McCain was discussing at the time, to allude to that joke was, well, …..awkward! Gov. Gibbons last month filed for divorce from his wife Dawn citing incompatibility. It’s pretty scandalous. The Reno Gazette-Journal recently reported that one month Gibbons sent 860 text messages to a woman with whom Mrs. Gibbons suspects her husband of stepping out. Gibbons you may recall started his governorship amidst accusations that he assaulted a cocktail waitress named Chrissy Mazzeo three weeks before Election Day. Mazzeo said Gibbons grabbed her in a parking garage and threatened to sexually assault her. Charges were never filed. Might want to scratch that joke from the schtick, senator, especially in Nevada. - jpt

Are you serious? That’s like the curb your enthusiasm episode where Larry pretended to beat Cheryl in the car as their inside joke. Obama’s campaign condoned so much vicious sexism while hypocritically playing the race card whenever an opening afforded itself through some innocuous comment. And he got away with it because with the Democrats racism is unacceptable while sexism is A-ok. Why would I vote for that. The clip is illustrative of a pervasive attitude of the Democrats - see the Bro’s before Ho’s t-shirt, or any other charming anti-Hillary apparel.

The clip is illustrative of a defense attorney stating that he will go to any extreme to keep his client off of death row. Do you REALLY need to take it out of context? Is your position THAT weak? Did Senator Obama wear the T-Shirt? Did it express his views? Didn’t think so. OK, So now I’m hearing from you that violence against women is funny. You’ve come a long way baby!

Actually that state legislator is showing the true nature of people who don’t want to treat rape as a serious crime that deserves a long prison sentence. That’s a woman’s issue that is far more important to me then Roe. Of course he didn’t wear the t-shirt, but that doesn’t mean he didn’t condone that and all the other stuff. It makes you angry that Democrats having Clinton voters over a barrel b/c of Roe isn’t holding true, doesn’t it? Get used to it.

I don’t think Roe has been an issue in a general election since at least 92’, maybe longer. “Actually that state legislator is showing the true nature of people who don’t want to treat rape as a serious crime that deserves a long prison sentence.” Aside from it being a glittering generality, you’re wrong again. It’s about whether it deserves a death sentence, not a long prison sentence. His argument was that if their clients are facing the death penalty, the CHILD rape victim would be re-victimized when they are forced to testify. That’s what he said, although I think he’s wrong and that juries would take it under consideration if they saw a defense lawyer putting a child through hell. “Of course he didn’t wear the t-shirt, but that doesn’t mean he didn’t condone that and all the other stuff.” and it doesn’t mean he did. Any evidence that he condoned the shirt? Any credible evidence at all? Not angry over Clinton voters and Roe at all. I also think that it’s a better than 50% chance that Senator Clinton will be on the ticket. That would be historic. Then I guess if we don’t elect them the country will be both racist AND sexist. I am angry at what’s become of my country in the last 8 years. I think that the 75% of the people who think we are on the wrong track agree with me, but we’ll see what happens in November, which is a long way away.

I’m wrong again? Really? Wow, thanks for letting me know! A Massachusetts politician and defense attorney has touched off a firestorm with his shocking public vow to torment and “rip apart” child rape victims who take the witness stand if the state legislature passed stiff mandatory sentences for child sex offenders. Rep. James Fagan, a Democrat, made the comments during debate last month on the state House floor. “I’m gonna rip them apart,” Fagan said of young victims during his testimony on the bill. “I’m going to make sure that the rest of their life is ruined, that when they’re 8 years old, they throw up; when they’re 12 years old, they won’t sleep; when they’re 19 years old, they’ll have nightmares and they’ll never have a relationship with anybody.”

I just can’t understand how anyone could say that. The thing that was most disturbing is that his strategy would only work if the child in question was not lying, but had been molested, and his client was guilty. Doesn’t a lawyers ethical duty to be a zealous advocate stop at knowingly aiding fraud on the court? I hope someone makes a bar complaint &/or he’s booted out of office.

You Said: “Actually that state legislator is showing the true nature of people who don’t want to treat rape as a serious crime that deserves a long prison sentence.” BUT, the clip is about giving these felons the death sentence, and not merely “long Sentences”, so yea, you’re wrong again.

Actually the clip is about long sentences not Kennedy v. Louisiana, read the article http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,371344,00.html or if fox is really that bad http://www.postchronicle.com/news/original/article_212154545.shtml Clinton lost the nomination because she didn’t pick a central message that appealed to voters and she allowed her campaign to be utterly mismanaged, not because of sexism. It doesn’t matter who won the nomination or who wins the presidency - the displays of sexism against her were tragic and wrong and evidence of something we, as a country, need to work on. And it’s true that it comes from all walks of life and both sides of the aisle; but the Democrats claim to be against it, so when they become the biggest perpetrators, they make themselves intolerable. If you truly feel that Obama is the answer to America’s problems, and you want him to be elected, you should take a hard look at your leaders, your fellow Democrats, and yourself and ask, are we sexist, or even misogynist, and is that ok, and if not, what can we do to fix it. Seriously, don’t reply to this comment unless you are willing to watch this http://www.huffingtonpost.com/blake-fleetwood/powerful-video-of-ugly-se_… in its entirety and in some way address the things that were said and done to Hillary Clinton as opposed to just telling me I’m wrong.

A T, Mea Culpa. I was wrong and confused about what the idiot was talking about. However, he still has nothing to do with Obama or the Democrats as a whole. He’s just an A hole.
