Governor Sarah Palin, 44, Named McCain's Running Mate

By The Staff at wowOwow.com
Sarah Palin, Governor of Alaska
AP

Twenty-four years after Walter Mondale selected Geraldine Ferraro as his vice-presidential running mate, and less than 24 hours after the historic nomination of the first African American candidate to lead a major party ticket for president, more history is being made today as John McCain — in a surprise move — selects Sarah Palin as his running mate on the Republican ticket.

This dramatic announcement makes Sarah Palin the first woman in history to run as vice president on the Republican side and only the second woman to take the veep spot on a major party ticket.

Palin, 44, is a mother of both a son in the military and a young child with Down’s Syndrome as well as three other children. She is pro-life and a member of the group Feminists for Life. She is a sportswoman who owns a gun. She staged an upset victory in the Alaskan Republican primary by running a clean government campaign against the incumbent Republican governor, Frank Murkowski. She is against gay marriage, yet vetoed a bill that would have barred Alaska from granting benefits to the partners of gay state employees.

My Alias—If McCain wins he will more than likely run again. But I think it is looking more and more like your gal Hillary will be the Democratic nominee in 2012. I always thought Obama made a huge mistake dismissing the Clintons, and it looks like they may just get the last laugh.

Some talking head on MSNBC just said if Sen Clinton had won and picked Sen Obama—there would have been 16 yrs of Dem rule…now maybe the opposite.

My Alias, Do you see Hillary and Palin as equals in ability and credentials.? After hearing Senator Clinton’s speech and Gov. Palin’s speech, do you think there is any comparison?

No. I think Hillary is superior. But I liked Palin’s speech today and can smell a fighter. If it was Palin vs. the Hill, Hill would get my vote. Here’s what I would like to see in 2012. A Clinton/Obama ticket! That’s a winner.

Apparently, her voice is now an issue like it was with Hillary. My best friend says now it’s Obama for sure because of Gov Palin’s voice. Well, at least she has a compelling reason.

No Way-No How -No McCain
Comparing Hillary Clinton with this lightweight is like comparing a leaky rowboat and the OE2.

WOW!. I do wish as women conversing on this list we could get past calling Palin names and noting her looks. They do compliment her like they compliment the others. Finally, Hillary, Palin, Michelle and Cindy aren’t afraid to embrace their qualities, idenities, voices and acknowledge being female.

I second that, Trish! I am shaking my head today over the harshness. These are all women who are making their way in the world, serving the public, raising familes, doing what women do…some of this is so abrasive. If you don’t want to vote for someone, don’t. But do we have to shriek and rip?

Star and Trish Well put. My argument is the treatment people get on this site. For what? One vote each is enough to go crazy over? No, we don’t have to “shriek and rip?” It is really getting kind of boring and tedious. All the accusations and fearful scenarios diced and blended over and over. There is no new or real thinking going on. Why would I want to follow someone like that with my vote? Don’t any of you have any new or real thoughts on substance and structure of a new way to go. I don’t see anyone willing to change, although they are voting for a candidate that is basing his platform on change. That means you guys have to change too. Those are all old platforms that are sliced and diced around here. There is no new thinking outside of the box. There are just accusations. Change doesn’t happen because someone says “I am going to do this for you”. If you don’t change thinking, there will be no change. This is a government created out of the minds of men and women, if the belief systems on both sides don’t change, nothing will change. Maybe a party has the power for awhile, and they institute some of their programs, but really change this nation, and change the world. I don’t think so.

Bush and Cheney certainly changed this nation and changed the world. I absolutely believe we can change it! And Obama has clearly said over and over, he is not and can not change things for us. Change is what we, the people have have to do. It’s not about him. It’s about us. That is his message. Thinking we can’t do it, is to me the oldest kind of thinking, ‘why bother at all? it won’t do any good. Nothing will change’. I believe it will and we can and I will hold that vision and continue to faithfully work towards it.
