'Gypsy' is Wow Wow Wow: 'Sing Out, Louise!'

We on this site are very flattered and grateful to the producers of the best revival yet of the Arthur Laurents—Stephen Sondheim—Jules Stein classic musical, “Gypsy,” now on Broadway at the St. James Theater.

Their double-page advertisement reading "WOW WOW WOW" in The New York Times over last weekend made us feel so proud of the resemblance, which was powerful.

So, while we are basking in reflected glory, let us recommend that you make plans to see the new “Gypsy” — the finest example yet of this iconic show ever to grace any stage anywhere. As a minor critic, I wrote: “Not just your ordinary theater experience. This is the best production of the best damn musical ever!”

Unfortunately Broadway doesn’t figure in my budget this year. Wouldn’t it be nice if PBS or someone could videotape the Lupone performance and share it with the rest of us? A Broadway show, of course, must be seen live to be truly appreciated, but look at all the once in a lifetime performances lost forever because they were never recorded.
