Text of Whoopi’s comments:

Oh my goodness. So it was brought to my attention that wOw had a happy birthday greeting for me, and all the responses were so cool. So great. You guys, the folks that posted for me and said all those wonderful things about feeling like they were connected because they heard something that made sense to them, or they felt like they were hearing people they cared about talking to them, and hearing the voices of the past, and all of those things kind of threw me for a loop because I’m just sort of here scratching my butt and hoping to help the world somehow. And the fact that you all sent such loving wishes and said such beautiful things, so many of them, I can’t even begin to tell you how great it was that you even cared it was my birthday. I can’t even say, "Thank you." But I’m gonna. That’s why I called in, was to say, "Thank you." I can’t even begin to tell you how it all made me feel. It made me feel like I was the person that my mom hoped that I would grow up to be. Someone who’s a little kooky and a little weird but maybe has something to offer. And what I get from all of you is that you may not agree always but you don’t mind that I have opinions or that I believe in something or that I am the person that I am. Who doesn’t want to be told that they’re OK in the world? And to get such a gorgeous response from you all, it was heaven. It made me very proud and it made my mom really proud because, of course, I told her to read it as well. And she did the mom thing and said, "Don’t let your head get too big because these people don’t actually know how out there you are." But that’s what moms do. So, thank you so much. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you so much.

Belinda .

I missed out on wishing you a happy B-Day Whoop….so please accept my belated wish. You are such a special woman. There is so much about you that epitomizes what all women should strive for. You have left your imprint on the planet….literally. In so many ways people can point to Whoopi Goldberg for this or that, you have definitely not maneuvered through life under the radar. You always make sure your voice is heard and in my opinion that is to be respected and admired.

You go girl!

Whoopi, one thing I missed out is that u, even though people might think ur views are bad on The VIew, like I told my frends earlier and got into a fight wid them I think EVERYONE shuld accept wat u have to say at all times. U speak like a philosopher man, u honestly do. One thing I love about u out of the millions is that of ur style. Ur hair is sooo gorgeous, since I was a baby I loved u in sarafina and sister act and I always referred to u as “wasta gold” LOL. was funny but i was only like five then and u were my hero. The time wen u appeared on Sesame Street I was like YEAHHHH. I LOVE ALL UR MOVIES whooopi. All, and the ones like Corrina Corrina and Boys on the side I ALWAYS remember because of the roles u played that inspired me. Ur never afraid to show who u are and I cant do that. U give me encouragement always. Ur soo funny tooo, I mentioned that bfore.
I totally love ur kool and casual walk as u enter on the stage on The View. When the ladies are coming out Id be like oohh ohhh here comes Whoopi. Lol. And u dress soo casual u dont show off or nething. See? there are soo many things to love about u for u just being who u are, THE FABULOUS WHOOPI GOLDBERG.
Mann, like i tell me mom and frens, I wish I was ur grandchild, then Id get to see u often,
Ud be me grandma and Id be soo happy to have a relative like u.
Ps. dnt get angry at me for using ur last name, I think its kooooooollllll. GOLD is great.lol

I LOVE U SOOO MUCH
TAKE care Felicia

No - thank YOU! I only wish I could have posted something more eloquent for you that day other than the standard Happy Birthday “you rock” type of message.

I definitely feel that being a fan of yours for so long as contributed greatly to how I view the world and handle situations. It all started because of your entertaining performances, but in the end, it’s your soulful, insightful, objective, intellectual WISDOM you contribute to Humanity…that’s what makes your presence in this otherwise screwed up world so worth celebrating. We so so SO need more people like you doing more of the thinking and speaking.

So…just keep doin’ what you do (although I do miss the days you were starring in 4 or 5 movies a year) - please and thank you!

Well, tell your mom some of us do know how far out there you are and that’s what we love about you. To me you are the best comedienne out there––a little play on the “out there” thingy–––and deserve all the accolades ten-fold. And did you realize the day of your birthday Keith Oberman wished you a happy birthday at the end of his show? I mean, jeeez, how loved can you get?????

Phyllis…here we go again! I just saw this thread and had to get in to throw my two cents and I was going to say THE EXACT same thing you did…about the “out there thing” and that Keith announced it as he was signing off that night!!!!

Sooooooooo, Whoopi, tell your mom that we know you better than she thinks AND that is WHY we love you so. You keep on keeping on and do it your way……………………………………………………..and tell mom I said so. Glad you had a good one!

Get your hand out of your breeches and accept the fact that folks just love you and I am one of them. You really shouldn’t be so shocked after all these years. You’ve brought lots of laughter to the world and that is a gift. And as if that weren’t enough, you stand up for stuff. good stuff. stuff that matters. You, Ms Goldberg, are a national treasure.

i think, whoopi..that the ‘thing’ that has always resonated for me with you is that i feel alot the way you do and i feel like i ‘know’ you … as if you are someone who-if i had the opportunity to know, personally- would have been a good friend of mine
…..i am a tad ‘out there’ myself and my mom also used to ‘warn’ me about being different…she was too and the last thing she wanted me to be was like her…but i am glad i am…. my mom was my biggest influence in so many ways…she has been gone for many years but she lives on inside of me…it sounds like you have the kind of relationship with your mom, that i had with mine…
you are welcome for the wishes…the world needs more whoopi’s ..for sure!
