Text of Whoopi’s comments:

Oh my goodness. So it was brought to my attention that wOw had a happy birthday greeting for me, and all the responses were so cool. So great. You guys, the folks that posted for me and said all those wonderful things about feeling like they were connected because they heard something that made sense to them, or they felt like they were hearing people they cared about talking to them, and hearing the voices of the past, and all of those things kind of threw me for a loop because I’m just sort of here scratching my butt and hoping to help the world somehow. And the fact that you all sent such loving wishes and said such beautiful things, so many of them, I can’t even begin to tell you how great it was that you even cared it was my birthday. I can’t even say, "Thank you." But I’m gonna. That’s why I called in, was to say, "Thank you." I can’t even begin to tell you how it all made me feel. It made me feel like I was the person that my mom hoped that I would grow up to be. Someone who’s a little kooky and a little weird but maybe has something to offer. And what I get from all of you is that you may not agree always but you don’t mind that I have opinions or that I believe in something or that I am the person that I am. Who doesn’t want to be told that they’re OK in the world? And to get such a gorgeous response from you all, it was heaven. It made me very proud and it made my mom really proud because, of course, I told her to read it as well. And she did the mom thing and said, "Don’t let your head get too big because these people don’t actually know how out there you are." But that’s what moms do. So, thank you so much. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you so much.

Whoopi: I wished you a Happy Birthday on your last blog, we’re the same age. I hope you and I both make it to 100. Enough of the schmooz talk. You have to get off gay marriage. Gay is not the same as black. You should be ashamed of yourself to compare it. Even today, black people are stopped by the police, throw up against buildings, roughed up, and searched for no other reason except they’re black. You mentioned lynchings of a gay person. What gay person in America has been lynched.? Did you mean in Iran? Thats what they do. http://advanceindiana.blogspot.com/2005/07/irans-gay-lynchings.html Did you see the gays at the church in MI? This is hurting their cause .Here is an article. http://www.lansingstatejournal.com/article/20081112/NEWS01/811120369

Enough with the anti-Iran propaganda. All it does is make you seem contradictory. Did it ever occur to you that she supports the gay cause because, as AN OPPRESSED MINORITY, she can empathize with the struggle? I don’t understand your fixation with COMPARING technicalities and levels of suffering of each type of persecution - oppression is oppression is oppression. Blacks get wrongfully pulled over by police, yes, but here in the South and Midwest, if the wrong person finds out you are gay, you CAN get beaten/murdered (Matthew Shepard, anyone?) - that’s why the “hate crime” laws exist, sir.

Merrill: You didn’t have to apologize. That was very nice of you, I accept your apology. I aplologize if I hurt your feelings. What makes you think I’m obtuse or narrow minded? I’m as sharp as they come. I’m very well aware there is violence against gay people in this country. Why would I read personal testimonials from gay people regarding their lives, or the violence in their lives? I’m just a regular guy that opposes gay marriage. After the display I saw in a San Fransisco church and a Michigan church, I have no sympathy for gay people at all. Sorry.

You can just step off the planet anytime now! Obviously, as an insensitive, disconnected to reality, boob, you need to just go away, now. Enough, is enough, is enough. How fawking dare you even insinuate that homosexuals have never been harmed like black people have. How dare you pit the two cultures against one another! How dare you act like the bigot you really are! How dare you be on a women’s site and go on about ranting your bigotted, hatefilled propaganda! You obviously have not been awake for a whole bunch of years, or you would have the answer to your almost questions. Have you ever heard of Matthew Sheppard? Have you ever read about all the homosexuals who have been beaten to death with baseball bats? Have you heard of the horror stories of gay men being beaten, slashed and gutted, as a means of torture? I had a good friend slashed to death by someone who most likely sounded just like your words show. Go away, now! WE don’t need your kind of hatred on this site. I am appalled and insensed that someone as yourself is being allowed access to this wonderful site. We WERE getting along quite well without the hatred you spew. I pray you never have to feel the very pain of those words you have typed on this site. I pray you will look in the mirror one day and realize it could be you at the end of the baseball bat, it could be you getting a knife slashed across his face, it could be you having is guts laying out for the world to see. Go away, now!

Tell your mom, we may not know how out there you are or even much about the everyday at home Whoopi, true. But what we do know makes all the difference. With the movies I’ve watched and the View my world is a lot richer because of you. Financially I survive in a Third World America but, intellectually, creatively and beautifully I own a cattle upon a thousand hills. And your vivacous, kooky, spunky attitude have filled many a depressed, lonely, hungry night with laughter. I am all the richer because of you being you. I hope you celebrate many, many more wonderful, joyous birthdays.

I want to wish you a Happy Belated Birthday and I watch you on the view everyday. I have seen almost every movie you’ve done. I also made my mom get me tickets to see you in Xanadu this summer and you signed my playbill and I wanted to say how you are such an inspiration to me but I got nervous and forgot how to open my mouth. I am 18 and an aspiring actress and hopefully I’ll get to meet you someday. Well, I don’t know if you’ll ever see this but happy birthday again!!! Love, Davia Meader

Whoopi, Thank YOU! You are so very welcome. I didnt’ write a lot of mushy kinda stuff, ‘cause sometimes I don’t do it so good. But, I have been watching you for so many years now, and just wanting more… more… more. I loved you in the “Sister Act” movies, Corrina, Corinna!, Made in America, Jumping Jack Flash, and Ghost, and … the road trip thingy, the group of women supporting their friend… and, I don’t remember all the darn names, but - I DO remember you, Whoopi! You will long be remembered in my heart, most especially because you are funnier than heck, but… you are a very talented actor as well. I love watching and listening to your good self, on “The View” and I love how graciously, you can put a stop to the “mouth” at the other end of the table… whineeee. Sorry, I just had to add my thought, there. God(dess) bless you Whoopi, keep on keeping on! Please.

The day I’m not able to wish a wonderful person a Happy Birthday, is the day they will be putting me in the ground. Of course you can see “ghosts”, so I’ll still be sending you greetings!

Who0pi, we love you so it is only natural that we jumped onto the keyboard to let you know. Someone wrote that we need more Whoopi’s in this world but I know that is impossible for they broke the mold when you were born. This is it, one Whoopi and I bet your Mom would agree and wonder how she would have handled several Whoopis. Love your honesty and being yourself plus the comedic side. (was that good English? I dunno, I am a foreigner/American)

You know, you speak better English than most American natives. It’s good for you, but a sad truth of the education system in this country. lol
