Name this clip …
ME Anderson - 5/6/2008 6:00 AM

I believe it’s Gene Tierney and Dana Andrews in the film “Laura,” a 1944 film noir.

yes, it is indeed “Laura”. i own this film & have watched it a bunch of times. it’s a part of my childhood. my mom was a big fan of gene tierney.

I didn’t know that clip, but I loved the whole thing! It was fun trying to guess the movies!

This is so marvelous! What a job trying to put this together––so clever. I love good films. I remember when I first saw”Laura” and was absolutely captivated not only with the plot, but with Gene Tierney’s fetching little overbite.

Rose Blum - 5/6/2008 10:22 AM

I haven’t stopped laughing! How good it is to see all those familiar clips and famous faces. I too knew right away it was “Laura”.

Maurine H - 5/6/2008 10:32 AM

Laura is the face in the misty light
Footsteps that you hear down the hall
The laugh that floats on a summer night
That you can never quite recall
And you see Laura on a train that is passing through
Those eyes, how familiar they seem
She gave your very first kiss to you
That was Laura, but she’s only a dream.”

Sung by a poor slob who was totally in the dark about women. They don’t write ‘em like that any more.

Who was this lyricist? I might guess Mercer, but I’d probably be wrong.

BUT, but, but…WowowowowowoW!! wowoOwow, who put this masterpiece together? I defy anyone to quibble. Who made such wonderful choices? And to end with Tokein… Well done!

Mugsy Peabody - 5/6/2008 12:33 PM

And in Movie Lyrics for $100 Ms. Dee, you are…………….RIGHT!!!! Johnny Mercer!

Ms. Dee - 5/6/2008 3:00 PM

You are tesin’ me, Mugsy! Really? My, my…I’m better’n I thought.

Frank Peterson - 5/6/2008 1:52 PM

Maurine—thanks. That is such any incredibly beautiful song. an Gene Tierney and her magnificent overbite. sigh.

G T - 5/6/2008 10:37 AM

Had to be Laura, “the face in the misty light, footsteps that you hear down the hall, the laugh that floats on a summer night” Also realy enjoyed seeing some clips from other movies I have loved. ….What a great idea. Thanks so much for the fun.

Ms. Dee - 5/6/2008 11:05 AM

Rosebud…I recognized that one. 10 lights on the train. Ah yes, the film that convinced us all about the long-term effects of childhood trauma. So staunchly black and white.

I worry our young film-makers will forget. Most of their videos are just sad.

Ms. Dee - 5/6/2008 11:25 AM

And you reminded me, I’m not quite done when it comes to the stage. I remember as a younger woman, hoping I would live long enough to play Big Mama in “Cat”. And then there was the day, as a very young girl, when I found out “Lion in Winter” was also a play, and I hoped I’d live long enough to tackle Elinore of Acquitaine. I’d only seen the movie, and who could rival the iconic Katherine Hepburn? But i’d still love to try…on some anonymous stage somewhere. Just take a crack at it.

Big Mama is now behind me, but Elinor still awaits.

Lady Gator - 5/6/2008 11:53 AM

Definitely Laura!!! I love all the “Oldies but Goodies”! In fact I love to watch TCM (Turner Classic Movies). They are so wonderful. The other night my husband and I watched “Rebecca”. I even love the old musicals — some so corny. I just can’t stomach all the gore and yucky language in today’s movies. Ah, I am so old fashioned!!!

Dona Howlett - 5/6/2008 12:16 PM

You know you’re old when you remember Laura…….These were a delight. I can’t imagine how many thousands of movie’s I’ve seen over my lifetime……I’m a movie lover. In the Theaters, on TV and now with TEVO and Netflix I can see almost everything.
Thanks for sharing.
