I am like the HUGEST Beatle fan ever—I do remember this very clearly, Can;t say I blame them for stopping the tour scene it was getting scary for them.
I believe their last concert together was on the roof of Apple—Let it Be……..
God I still get the chills when I hear all their music.
Hey Jude was always special because my cousins name was Judy and she was going thru a lot then………….
The woman I Ioved so much was named Jude (she preferred that over Judy, which some called her). She used to laugh when that song came on the radio. Jude died in 1991.
The song is credited to both Lennon and McCartney but Paul was the actual songwriter. I believe the song was written for John’s son, Julian.
The last live concert by the Beatles was held in Candlestick Park in San Francisco. (where the 49ers play) Paul said later that even on the bandstand he could not hear his fellow Beatles….it was that loud. Madness.
Someday a grad student is going to do a paper on the effect of “immediate fame and fortune” and use the four Beatles, John/Paul/George/Ringo, as her subjects. They all reacted differently to their good fortune…. or was it bad fortune?
Tension became so bad between Paul and John that one day Paul said they were recording in the studio and it just wasn’t going well. All the problems from the accounting records to their personal lives were interfering with their music. Paul went on to say that John finally just lifted his small little glasses off the bridge of his nose and said, “it’s just me Paul, it is still me.” The rest of the session was successful.
But soon John and Paul were not talking to each other and each would appear in the studio alone and record their bit of the soundtrack and leave; then the other would come in and lay down his track. It is and was a tragedy.
Thank you for the look back when the Beatles were still able to make wonderful music together. They were magic.
Please look at my post below, which contains a link to The Beatles last live performance in 1969 in London. Cheers!
Of course! Thank you, James. The rooftop concert - how could I have forgotten.
When I was a kid I thought they were risque and raggety. Now they seem young and mild compared to the Euro Trash/Goth kids covered in tatoos, piercings and with purple spiked hair. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
Then I thought, how conventional that sounds while I’m reading down a list (it’s a book to) of “Stuff White People Like” hysterical….but sheesh, I really do like a lot of that stuff. My life’s a cliche. I’d join the circus and marry a Hell’s Angel to redeem myself but am taking some comfort that at least I don’t buy antibacterial soap. In fact I scoff at it. Wonder if it’s on the list.
Winery-
“Stuff White People Like”…just may inspire a visual for me.
Winery …….. I don’t know that I can put this into a grouping of words, but here goes ……
Somehow, in reading this particular post of yours; I’ve found this one to be your best, your funniest and your most self-reflecting. I mean all of this as compliment to your honesty.
Oh ……… my thoughts on the Beatles ……… Master’s, volume 2 …….. the best! That is the album that I used to introduce my son to their music when he was quite young! One is never too young to experience great lyrics and music!
No one group so reflected our culture, told our story and provided the sound track track for our lives during those turbulant times than the Beatles.
I’m happy to say our New Orleans friends in the music business have a 15 year old son who, upon discovering their music in his father’s collection, think they’re cool. Timeless.
They left the pitcher’s mound in a Brinks armored truck and Paul waved at me as they passed….
Yes, Candlestick Park, 42 years ago, this evening. My first concert ever and a birthday present from my sister. She has always given me the most extraordinary and magic affirming gifts. I love my sister.
Just this morning, knowing what day this is, I put in the Beatles One CD, faced the authentic original poster that is framed and hanging on my wall. (also a present from my sister that night along with the program)
I oogied, boogied, did the jerk, the monkey and the bugaloo, too.
Whenever I feel blue, this is the music to lift my spirits and recharge my batteries.
I am one of the lucky ones who was there that night for their 45 minute set. I remember that you could hear a pin drop when “Yesterday” was sung.
I have had the privelege to attend many live performances across numerous genres since then, but nothing, nothing compares to that one Monday evening. Injoy.
i LOVE the Beattles!!! Every song from ‘Hey Jude’ is my FAVORITE!!! I know it’s hard to believe that I am only 13 and know all the so-called ‘oldies’ but I love them!!!! They’re all so different, and family-orientated. Forever Live the Beattles Wonderful Music, Bless the Beattles.
Kayla: I was 13 when I went to that concert. I wish you many of your own.
Thank you, I just wish the Beattles still were going strong….
Beatles……timeless….and a part of our DNA now, if that ispossbile.
Would sing Yellow submarine while washing my kids in the tub when little. They know most of the words to most of their songs. :)
Got to “see” Paul this May in Conn…and still he gave me chills….. not so much for him tho….just another crowd of folks thinking he is a genius of a writer of music, lyricist and an icon. swoooooon.
