In 1991, we bought our first cd player for the house. The cd’s we picked up were the Pretender and Running on Empty along with Pablo Cruise’s Place in the Sun, Madonna’s Immaculate Collection, James Taylor’s Sweet Baby James, Eagles’ Desperado, Pink Floyd’s The Wall. Many Happy Birthdays to you Jackson! You have given the visual image and the music that may best fit the Boomer generation in your album we call Road . Sure, the music of Detroit, the Beatles, the Stones, The Dead, James Taylor and many more are part of a musical catalogue; but, if one iconic image fits the personality best of this generation, it may well be the image of a road going off into the distance as on your cover. Searching, travelling, not knowing what will happen as a result of the travels(good and bad) and it seems, living life as if running on empty. Thank you for giving voice to inner angst that we listened to first in our youth and now as well.

Jackson, I love your new CD Time the Conqueror - the title song speaks the most to all of us!! Happy birthday. Shave the beard.

I remember seeing him in concert, and borrowing binoculars so that I could get a good look at that beautiful face…I always cry when I hear the song “Sleep’s Dark and Silent Gate”; remembering that his lovely, troubled wife committed suicide, leaving him with an adorable baby boy. “The Pretender” carries this fresh heartbreak throughout: it is a masterpiece.
