HerTube: Not Just for Breakfast

By The Staff at wowOwow.com

On this date in 1837, Tiffany & Co was founded by Charles Lewis Tiffany and John B. Young in New York City. To celebrate, wowOwow presents some of the greatest scenes from "Breakfast at Tiffany’s," the gem of a film starring Audrey Hepburn.

Now I want to rent this movie again. While I can’t afford too many things that come in a little blue box with a white ribbon, I still love looking at all the beautiful pieces in their store.

Love this film have seen it “Sabrina” and “Funny Face” many times. Audrey Hepburn said it was her favorite of her films. Her mother said “Funny Face” was most like her. And Robert Wolders said ‘The Nun’s Story” was so much that he couldn’t look at it after her death. As Willie Wilder said, “God kissed her on her cheek and there she was.” A great lady. And Tiffany is great too. Wore their perfume for many years…maybe I’ll go back to it. I certainly loathe seeing Citi here as an advertizer….but Tiffany always makes me smile…including its association with the Hovings.

She was so elegant and beautiful, and just as beautiful on the inside.

Don’t get me wrong, I love Audrey Hepburn, but it was great to hear a little Mercer so early in the day. Thanks, Ladies.

Ms. Dee…FYI The score and ‘Moonriver” was by Henry Mancini (which you probably meant) who said that of the hundreds of singers who sang his piece no one had such dedication to the lyrics as Audrey.

Oh, Suzanne, you’re sweet let me off the hook, but no. I was just wrong. I SHOULD’ve known, though. Of course it was Mancini. What was I thinking! Thanks for setting the record straight. BTW, I found a dollar-copy of Charade the other day. D’lish!

The songs, “Moon River” and “Way down upon the Suwanee River” are only two of the songs that my mother sang to me as we traveled across Tennessee to get to the river in Arkansas. I would put my head in her lap (yes, in the car without seatbelts) and she would sing me to sleep. The car would bump along, but I always knew I was safe in her lap. Her singing and her piano playing are two things I miss most. It’s really wonderful to think of that today. My birthday is coming up on Oct. 1st and I gave myself an early present that came straight from wowowow! I bought a half session with Peggy Rometo…you know, the woman who can see with a keen intuitive eye. We talked and among other topics, my mother came up. So, while this thread is about Tiffany’s and Hepburn … for me, it took me back to a time when all was safe…or it seemed. And I was relaxed.

She left us too soon. She was often on Larry King, wearing a plain white t shirt, little makeup, and talked about her work with the hungry children of the world. No token celebrity, she went to places devoid of comfort, and often didn’t stop to eat for days. I’ll never forget her in “Roman Holiday.” I was eleven years old and my mother, having gone Saturday night with my father, took me to every evening performance that week. It was her first movie, but she won an Oscar; Gregory Peck had the foresight to insist she get top billing. A great beauty, a gifted actress, a humanitarian.
