If the only prayer you ever say in your entire life is thank you, it will be enough.” Meister Eckhart I always loved that quote. I think it is true. Attitude of gratitude.

I’ve always praised my children and all those I love. They grew up to be very secure people. I get so much pleasure out of giving a compliment to a complete stranger. I’ve had people tell me all my life after receiving a compliment…….. “Wow, you just made my day.” It’s amazing how good that makes me feel. It’s so much easier to be kind. If I’m mean to someone I suffer. I thinks its silly to make my self suffer. LOL

No truer words were ever spoken. It is so important to give thanks not just for our own blessings, but to be offer praise and genuine thanks to others. I know someone who when we first met never said thank you to anyone, never had a kind word to say and was very negative….guarded with her emotions. I try to be positive as much as possible and somehow (I don’t know how) I must have had an affect on her. In a strained and almost painful way she told me ThankYou for something I had done for her. It was almost as if she was apologizing to me for something. Her head was down, there was no smile, she looked nervous. I responded with my usual “No problem…I was just glad I could help!” with a huge smile. As time went by it got easier and easier for her, and today I am glad to report she gives thanks as if it comes natural to her.

This is really so true. And Josie, thank you for saying thank you to Laura Trice! It make me smile and it was exactly the right response. I do remember many years ago meeting some neighbors of my parents on a visit. I had been working hard as a lawyer, representing poor people. The neighbor said, “Oh! It is so nice to meet you at last! Your father is so proud of you.” I was stunned. I said, really? I just had no idea that my father was proud of me. I asked him why he never told me and he said he didn’t want me to get a swelled head. I laughed and said I was in no danger from that! So maybe I was not the only one with a father who was shy to praise and eager to criticize. It is probably very common.
