wOw's Views on the News: Poll Says Majority of Dems Want Clinton as Vice President

By The Staff at wowOwow.com

Despite her overwhelming win last night in West Virginia (click here to read about it), 55 percent of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents surveyed by Gallup (click here to see more details on the poll results) say it’s time for Sen. Clinton to join Obama’s ticket as candidate for vice president. Should Obama extend the invitation? What are your thoughts? What are your predictions?

Oh no. She and her husband would set up a separate power base and spend the next four years undermining him even if they didn’t mean to. It would make his situation unbearable. He should ask someone to be his v.p. who can bring in a state.

Well, whichever one gets the nomination should courteously offer the VP spot to the other. But I don’t see either of them accepting it. Obama better offer Hillary “something” of value if he wants her to help him beat John McCain in November. And vice versa!

Why doesn’t he offer her a good job, instead? Such as the Supreme Court?

Sure. But not before he hires a food taster.

Sorry. I think it is important to get a lot of the old ways out and a lot of new ways in. He should stick with change.

A zillion times NO to HRC as VP. “Our answer is to rely on youth—not a time of life but a state of mind, a temper of the will, a quality of imagination, a predominance of courage over timidity, of the appetite for adventure over the love of ease. The cruelties and obstacles of this swiftly changing planet will not yield to obsolete dogmas and outworn slogans. They cannot be moved by those who cling to a present that is already dying, who prefer the illusion of security to the excitement and danger that come with even the most peaceful progress. It is a revolutionary world we live in; and this generation at home and around the world, has had thrust upon it a greater burden of responsibility than any generation that has ever lived. “Some believe there is nothing one man or one woman can do against the enormous array of the world’s ills. Yet many of the world’s great movements, of thought and action, have flowed from the work of a single man. A young monk began the Protestant reformation, a young general extended an empire from Macedonia to the borders of the earth, and a young woman reclaimed the territory of France. It was a young Italian explorer who discovered the New World, and the thirty-two-year-old Thomas Jefferson who proclaimed that all men are created equal. “Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring, those ripples build a current that can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance. “Few are willing to brave the disapproval of their fellows, the censure of their colleagues, the wrath of their society. Moral courage is a rarer commodity than bravery in battle or great intelligence. Yet it is the one essential, vital quality for those who seek to change a world that yields most painfully to change. And I believe that in this generation those with the courage to enter the moral conflict will find themselves with companions in every corner of the globe.” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p9JTYnMpRyg&NR=1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OG4vJxi9Kis&feature=related

I just saw on the BBC Obama’s dismissive “hold on one second sweetie” remark to a female reporter. SWEETIE?!

Barack Obama called the reporter and apologized if she felt offended. He explained that he uses the word "sweetie"; with people; he was not being sexist. He also promised to grant her an interview the next time he is in Detroit. I’ve said to people, male and female alike, "Sweetheart , I just don’t have time right now." Barack’s "Sweetie" knows no gender.

Of course he did, after she filed her story and mentioned it on the air. It’s called damage control. The old, nip it in the bud. Many Obama supporters are trying to dismiss this as a non issue, but it points to sexism, and believe me, just watch the foreign news… the rest of the world sees it for what it is, they clearly think it is an issue. World leaders don’t wave their arms at news reporters and dismiss them as “sweeties.” Besides being impolite, demeaning and dismissive it was clearly sexist. Puh-lease it is 2008 Barack, the day of little sweeties in steno pools is over. The longer this thing goes on, the more he reveals of himself.

I’m more concerned about the condesending tone of his voice rather than the word used. This incident, coupled with his recent remarks in San Francisco, cause me to question his heart. Now he’s wearing a flag pin. Whichever way the wind blows, he’ll follow to get the vote. CHANGE? WHAT CHANGE.

I heard that “sweetie” comment and cringed. It is inappropraite to call a professional woman any affectionate so called “endearing” name. It hinders her appearance of being competent, and able to gain peoples respect. Her boss witnessing this could likely dismiss her for a promotion. You know how important it is for a candidate to “appear Presidential”. It is just as important for women to appear professional. The demeaning “sugar” “sweetie” “honey” ‘dearie” is sexist and arrogant. It is spoken from an attitude of superiority and is condescending. Somethings are just not appropriate. Remember when Bush was too familiar with the president of germany and gave her a shoulder rub? It undermined her respect, she was not “endeared” by his too famioliar and inapproriate behavior and that one act hurt German /U.S. relations. Remember when Bush called Tony Blair “Hey Blair” - Tony Blair was viewed by his constituents as weak and Bush’s lap dog. He lost his respect from the Brits and stepped down. These seemingly small actions some slough off as “lighten up” or “get real” but the little foxes are important. As long as women allow people to undermine their work, professionalism, adult status by accepting denegrating names that will continue the glass ceilings, unequal pay and lack of opportunity. I have seen others respond with - aren’t there more important issues to be concerned about like the economy? Well, women are the hardest hit group with this downturn in the economy - why- because we are not recognized and respected for our contributions to the professional work world. As evidenced by “sweetie” terms of endearment that we are supposed to be flattered and satisified with instead of the bonus or answer to our questions. Others will then label women who do not want to be called”sweetie” as one of those hated dispised “feminist”. I am a woman. period. I want to be respected as an adult woman. And if I do not want to be called demeaning names that does not justify calling me another name with so much intended negative connotations with the agenda to separate one group of women from the others . Divide and conquer. And women who defend this sexist behavior, often trying to ingratiate themselves to the men with hopes to be accepted by the men as one of them- well the joke is on you. Obama is 47 years old, not grandfatherly. He is at the tail end of the baby boomers. He should know better, especially for the job and field he has chosen. And if you do not know someone’s name - “honey” “sweetie” etc is not the choice for someone raised with manners to use. The highly respect “Ms. ” “Miss” Ma’am” “Sir” is simple enough to fill in when the name is not known.
