wOw's Views on the News: Poll Says Majority of Dems Want Clinton as Vice President

By The Staff at wowOwow.com

Despite her overwhelming win last night in West Virginia (click here to read about it), 55 percent of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents surveyed by Gallup (click here to see more details on the poll results) say it’s time for Sen. Clinton to join Obama’s ticket as candidate for vice president. Should Obama extend the invitation? What are your thoughts? What are your predictions?

One of the hallmarks of both the Bush and Clinton dynasties — are their hiring of prominent African-Americans who then must compromise their principles (if they ever had them) to be accepted. They have sold their souls — for POWER and INFLUENCE. Colin Powell is now trying to rehabiitate himself — to no avail. Condi Rice is in a bubble, soon to re-enter the real world and find, as General Powell has, they have no respect from any quarter not aligned w/the dynasties. Clarence Thomas can, thankfully, remain in his bubble of privilege until death — blissfully surrounded by ONLY those who validate his defection from his own humanity and real self. Ron Brown paid this price…but maintained some sense of self and decency — the legacies of a quality upbringing he could never quite forget. He was no General or killer. He was a gentle soul. Vince Foster was probably the same.

Late night greetings Renata Just read through your recent posts, I kept wanting to reply but decided to wait until your last word. Please know that, as always, I learned much from what you so generously shared this evening, and I thank you. Pretty sad to see how some try to characterize us, but it isn’t realistic to expect them to understand our motivations. In an earlier post you talked about how proud you were to be working for Barack, I replied, “ME TOO!” How insulting when someone suggested a few pages back that we would need any incentive other than a belief in our candidate to devote ourselves to this campaign. I’m just an ordinary person; a tree farmer, and a Veteran’s widow who loves her country. I have never before felt such hope for this nation as I do right now. The people in the small towns down the road and all around my state are also ordinary people who are working their hearts out for Barack Obama. We are energized by this great man and the change we know he will deliver……for ALL of us, even those who don’t get it yet. That’s all the incentive we need! I love the Eugene connection, Renata. That’s where I did my undergrad work, and I too spent time in SH hospital there, although it was a few years prior to your unexpected special delivery. I am wishing you well, and looking forward to future posts. (and a link to your GoogleHealth project when it is ready to debut.) +~~ Sherry

Sherry - Thank you for sharing. We are all interconnected. We are Americans who love our Country. I have fond memories of Sacred Heart hospital, as you might imagine! My maternal grandmother grew up on a farm in AL and the love of that life never left her and was instilled in me. I often think of America as a tapestry, woven/interwoven with multicolored threads and precious jewels. The hate-speech and swift-boating for ANY reason must be erradicated from our public discourse. We have an intelletually dishonest “leadership” - who have trivialized and politicized religion, science, education, culture and “freedom of the press.” We are going to turn the page. Rural and city. North and South. We are going to retake our Nation back from these facists, and I don’t use the word — or ANY word, lightly.

There’s always a price—literally—with the Clintons, America’s most proficient and prolific pickpockets. Whether it’s carting off a rug from the White House (see Bob Herbert’s May 11 column); selling access to the Lincoln Bedroom; trading access to the former President for a Foundation contribution; or charging people thousands of dollars just to meet and greet him at a dinner or party, the Clintons are quite enterprising. Put another way, when it comes to money, it’s a bottomless pit with them. The hefty income from Bill’s speeches wasn’t enough so he had to get involved in some murky business deals. By contrast Al Gore, so respected and rightfully so, makes an Academy Award-winning film and wins the Nobel Peace Prize for his enduring contribution to the earth . Meanwhile, the Clintons are busy trolling for money.

Hey, we can discuss the Clinton SAGA extemporaneously — so WHERE are the journalists in NYC??? The Clintons’ dramas are part of our historical narrative and memory. The SPIN only focuses on the upside w/out adequate coverage and investigation of the CONSEQUENCES of the downside. NY was the perfect place for their White House-in-waiting. We are very inviting of anyone/everyone and, forgiving. We like to just move on. PROGRESS is important to our culture, as everyone can see after the aftermath of 9/11. We do, however, have LIMITS — and the Clintons are about to be INTRODUCED to that facet of our culture VERY SOON. Other than fat-cat visits, when was the last time anyone has heard HRC actually speak to/with her CONSTITUENCY — explain her decision to continue this FAILED candidacy to New Yorkers, etc.? Where have you read that? New Yorker, MI and FL need to recalibrate our interests with the Obama team. We need to be PRAGMATIC and stop being leveraged and commoditized as currency for the interests of Clinton Inc. Today’s SPIN is that Hillary Clinton is a ROLE MODEL and should not be forced to stop by the Democratic Party BECAUSE she is pioneering the first serious candidacy for a woman to become President. I knew if I waited this subtext rationale would be put into the MEDIA by the NY SPIN-MEISTERS. I firmly REJECT gender or race — or any other subjective criteria — should be the DEFINING FACTOR for ENTITLEMENT to anything pertaining to this most important decision on the part of Citizens of the United States. Oregon and our other sister States, THIS will be YOUR case from Clinton Inc. — divulged today. Hot off the presses. W. VA rationales don’t work FOR YOU. So, get ready for the SPIN you owe HRC the Nomination BECAUSE she represents ALL WOMEN (not me) and defines the value of ALL WOMEN (not mine). How nice to have been positioned to be the BENEFICIARY of all the collective sacrifices boomer women of every stripe have made in the last 40 years, w/out having had the street level-out of the bubble hardships, challenges or responsibilities. How nice to DEFINE our collective worth via HERself. If Hill succeeds, we all succeed. If Hill fails, we all fail. She didn’t fail us…we failed her. Our worth IS her possession. Our liabilities are…our own. I am NOT Bill. I don’t owe HRC anything. She is not entitled to anything of mine. I do not want my daughter to (falsely and unreastically) believe anyone OWES her because of her ethnicity or gender. I want her to know there are NO SHORTCUTS and it is unworthy to exploit others or their interests to advance a personal cause or interests. Oregon and our friends in the other States — THIS IS THE FINAL CASE. REJECT IT. WE are not FUSED with Clinton Inc.

I interviewed a grandmother of two boys killed in the Oklahoma City bombing. She said that Clinton promised to get back to her about a request she made. She never heard from him or any member of his staff again. Granted, the President can’t respond personally to each and every constituent. But this was an extraordinary event in which she deserved one, as he had promised and then reneged on. In yet another interview I did, this one with the mother of a slain civil rights worker, she spoke about how helpful and compassionate President Johnson had been during the long days when no one could find her son. Years later, after she went to the White House to get an award from Clinton, I asked her opinion of America’s so called “first black President.” She shrugged, this from a woman of goodness and valor who devoted her life to fighting injustice. Her shrug spoke volumes about the former President. She had so much humanity. She said that whenever she rode the subways, she would smile at someone who looked hurt in his or her life just so that person would know they mattered. Unlike Clinton, she didn’t throw people under the bus—or subway—if they weren’t useful to her.

I believe politicians have wide variants of emotional quotient (EQ) and the wife’s traditional role is to help balance out the EQ when the President himself has to assume the pivotal and burdensome role of “leader of the free world” such as we have defined the geopolitical modern role — visually aging them in the process in a very short period of time. What has yet to be explored, and it is a worthy endeavor of our historians and doctors — is what happens when that traditional support infrastructure is a) lacking, or — b) competitive vs. supportive? What if the two-fer, FUSED, multi (beyond 2 and up to an illegal 4) term Presidency — where the husband/President and wife/competing for the SAME role or power throughout — is a perversion of what was created by the Founding Fathers? Totally dysfunctional? I have said that a two-career couple is NOT the same as a FUSED-career couple, when the job/career is the PRESIDENCYAND THEY COMPETE WITH ONE ANOTHER throughout for shared power SIMULTANEOUSLY, though only one has the actual title and has taken the Oath of Office — and thus, accountable. The other — totally NOT accountable to anyone/anything — free to operate outside the boundaries of acceptable norms, standards or procedures. Was this the nexus of the original Clinton White House dysfunction? The MEDIA focuses on the propserity, but not the dysfunction and scandels out of “respect” for HRC as former First Lady. The role of Senator from NY has shielded her from having this era scrutinized. Her BELIEF THAT ONLY SHE IS CAPABLE and delusional, self-serving Bosnia stories — w/her daughter standing by knowing they are not true — is something further to be considered when making a selection of another FUSED Presidency w/Bill Clinton. Records access has been denied or stalled by installed Clinton-operatives MANAGING the National Archives. Where are the lines? Are there ANY? What happens to the Vice President’s role, standing — and his rightful ascendancy as next head of the Party — and political coattails for Congressional representatives in the aftermath of this setup? What IS the aftermath of this kind of setup? Is there ANYWAY for accountability to even take place when one partner of a FUSED Presidency — can operate outside the realm of accountability in the traditional role of First Lady, in name only??? Is THIS what the Founding Fathers had in mind???

What would it mean IF Bill Clinton were to assume this FUSED role with Hillary Clinton as President or Vice President — with no accountability and our having to TRUST him to operate w/in acceptable codes of ethical conduct — in his business affairs and otherwise? And they say Barack Obama is risky???

Yes, we DO say that. You guys have no idea what you will get with this person. I wonder if any of you will be around, under whatever name, for us to “discuss” this when everything hits the fan. Doubt it.

Ms. Lawrence: (5/16/2008 9:48 AM) I respond to your suggestion that “you guys” don’t know what we have in our candidate. Does that mean that you question our intelligence? Our abilities to cut through the crap and make informed decisions? Our reasoning? I came to this site to learn and to participate. I hope to be here when we carry the discussion further. And what I expect that discussion to reflect is open minds and intelligent discourse. The question becomes what will YOUR be attitude when Barack Obama turns out to be exactly what our country needs? Surely you would rather that be the case than to have your opinion validated?

If I am wrong, I will admit it. If you are wrong, we will be in mess after mess. Look at the last three pages of this—you’re talking to each other! Reinforcing, I guess.

Don’t bother Star L. They’ve come here from one of the other portals, likely moveon.org or another, to clog the board with “pro” Obama sentiment and discourage discourse. It’s very GOP/Roveish tactics. While BHS/Suzanne/BuhBye et al denies it, I watched them play tag team on two YouTube for weeks with much of the same copy and links and verbiage. If one of them didn’t show up, the other kept asking where they were tonight. It has changed the spirit of the wowOwow we were enjoying for a while and got our ire up (I know it did mine). But change was inevitable once the site got more popular. This is the change we can expect from this crowd. Vote for change, this is what you are signing up for.

I mentioned this before, but I think it is possible that those using Rovian tactics may well be working for Rove himself, just posing as Obama supporters. There is no reason a true Obama supporter would try so hard to make so many enemies. But there is a good reason for the Republican dirty tricksters to do it. Dirty tricks have sidelined too many elections. Don’t take the words in this thread too seriously. You don’t know where they came from.
