Clinton's 'Whip Team' to Keep Obama Protesters Subdued

Hillary Clinton is going to make sure her supporters don’t cause too much of an embarrassment to Barack Obama at the Democratic conventions next week.

Politico.com reports that Clinton’s staff is creating a 40-member "whip team" for the events in Denver to ensure her die-hard fans don’t partake in any anti-Obama demonstrations during the floor vote on her nomination. Obama and Clinton recently announced that, as a sign of party unity, her name would be formally placed in the nomination to ensure that her delegates were heard.

"If people get down there on the floor and want to start blowing kazoos and making a scene we want to make sure we’ve got people who stand in front of them with Obama signs," a person involved in the planning told Politico.com. "Is it typical for a losing candidate to have their own whip team? No. But it’s also not usual for a losing candidate to get 18 million votes either.”

Clinton spokeswoman Kathleen Strand said the whip team would not try to convince delegates to vote for the New York senator, but would hand out Clinton signs to supporters if they want them. “We have been and are working closely with the Obama campaign to make sure we have an exciting and unified convention," Strand said.

But MSNBC wonders if the presence of the whip team won’t make matters worse and encourage seriously disruptive protests. The Associated Press is reporting on preparations being made to restrain and hold such protesters, saying police have scrapped plans to top the holding cells in place with razor wire after some groups started comparing the site to the detention facility for suspected terrorists at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

Denver city officials don’t anticipate mass arrests, but just in case, they opened a city warehouse as the "Temporary Arrestee Processing Center" — complete with chain-linked cells — to allay fears that those arrested could spend long hours waiting. The center is located a couple of miles from the Pepsi Center, where the convention will take place. The cells will be topped with chain-link fencing. Protesters’ nicknamed the holding area as "Gitmo on the Platte," named after the South Platte River, which is nearby.

I do believe you got my books that my husband put in the wrong box when we moved. Had a signed copy of the Hitchhiker’s Trilogy and many Tom Robbins. I may forgive him someday. LOL. Injoy indeed.

Greetings Ms. 54: Just read this…and my response? As the character in the comic strip B.C. would say, ” Aaaaaarrrrrggggghhhh!!!!” I had an uncle who tossed all my Beatles memorablia. The stuff I was saving to pay for my college education, as I knew that it was all gonna be valuable one day. Last week while trolling a secondhand store, sat down to read a book about Beatles collectibles and their value….I was right. I had lots of one-of-a-kind stuff….Ah well, think of the movie, “Serendipity.” Believe the book’ll travel back to you and it will…My Beatles stuff not yet, although other disappeared items have…occasionally from places I’d least expect….Oooh, I met Tom Robbins at a book signing in May ‘04 and now have signed editions of Jitterbug Perfume (yes, I am a floral brain) and Villa Incognito. Also,(and this is the kicker), our quick and witty exchange eliciited a nice big guffaw from him to something I quipped. I treasure that most especially.Ta and Injoy, until next time.

Read a book recently about the place all lost items go, good concept, not such a good book. Saw that Robbins is to have a new book out this fall. Always a treat. Nice to meet another one who injoys.

Thanks for the heads up on Robbins. Will have to investigate if he’s coming my way, as another go round would be great fun. AND I can more autographed novels. Used to be neighbor to a flaming red headed woman who smoked Camels, collected woodpeckers and had been to the Pyramids and Hawaii. Ah, synchronicity… So this book about where the lost go…what’s the premise? Glad we’re chatting on less trafficked thread. I prefer the road less travelled. Ta Miss 54…. Injoy

Hope he comes this way, I am restocking. Unfortunately Douglas Adams is now irreplaceable. Obviously the book of the lost wasn’t very good as I don’t remember the name, but is was about a woman who was a P.I. who specialized in locating lost people. One day she disappeared and it was because she had somehow gone over into this land where people and things (such as socks in the dryer) go to. When she got there things started going back the other way. Liked the idea, just didn’t care for the writting. Have you ever read any Terry Pratchett books? Another writter with some unusual thoughts. More fantasy and can get silly. Injoying Iris O.

Injoying you too, Miss Sandbee 54: Nope, have not read any Pratchett. BTW, the idea of wlaking through the dimensional veils is not fantasy or unusual. Science is finally catching up with the idea. If you read newly released Stuart Wilde, he speaks of a “Brigadoon”/parallel overlay. Also, if you investigate, The Monroe Institute you can learn more about these. Parallel Universes exist at 90 degree angles. Re: Douglas Adams…how timely, as just this a.m. in shower I decided I was going to buy myself the DVD, “Hitchhiker’s Guide…” that came out a coupla years ago…One, cuz I loved it and two, to remind myself not to take the Vogons among us too seriously. (And man, they’ve really started to take over the neighborhood AND they write bad poetry.) Ta for now, I usually pop on once a day to surf this site, play with those I like and then on to other activities. Arrivederci, http://www.samuraidragonfly.blogspot.com

oops, missing my brain checker…that’s supposed to read “walking” through dimensions. What happens when I cross too often, I forget which alphabet goes where…heh heh
