Hillary Confirmed as Secretary of State, Finally!

After a bit of politically motivated resistance, Hillary Clinton has been confirmed as the nation’s next secretary of state, by a vote of 94-2.
Sen. John Cornyn, R-TX, held up Clinton’s confirmation for a day to ask more questions about the transparency of her husband Bill’s charitable foundation. But in the end, he voted for her. "I did get a private commitment from Sen. Clinton and I hope with President Obama now, given his very clear stance, which I applaud, in favor of more transparency and more openness in government and less secrecy," Cornyn told MSNBC this morning.
But Bloomberg says Clinton may confront more conflict-of-interest questions because of foundation donations coming from foreign governments.
Sen. John McCain, R-AZ, came to Clinton’s defense Wednesday, when he challenged Cornyn to drop objections to a unanimous voice vote confirming her. Politico says McCain, "who memorably traded shots of booze with the former First Lady on a codel [congressional delegation] before the 2008 campaign, succeeded in convincing Texas Republican Sen. John Cornyn, new head of the GOP’s Senate campaign committee, to drop his demand that Clinton be subjected to a roll-call vote." But two other Republicans, Sen. David Vitter of Louisiana and Jim DeMint of South Carolina, still voted "no."
We’ve no doubt she’ll brush off those two "no" votes and get busy mending our nation’s diplomatic relations. This is a big job, yes, but if anyone can do it, it’s Mrs. Clinton. Luckily, the secretary of state can start small by naming new envoys and getting to know her new colleagues at the State Department.
