Hillary Confirmed as Secretary of State, Finally!

After a bit of politically motivated resistance, Hillary Clinton has been confirmed as the nation’s next secretary of state, by a vote of 94-2.

Sen. John Cornyn, R-TX, held up Clinton’s confirmation for a day to ask more questions about the transparency of her husband Bill’s charitable foundation. But in the end, he voted for her. "I did get a private commitment from Sen. Clinton and I hope with President Obama now, given his very clear stance, which I applaud, in favor of more transparency and more openness in government and less secrecy," Cornyn told MSNBC this morning.

But Bloomberg says Clinton may confront more conflict-of-interest questions because of foundation donations coming from foreign governments.

Sen. John McCain, R-AZ, came to Clinton’s defense Wednesday, when he challenged Cornyn to drop objections to a unanimous voice vote confirming her. Politico says McCain, "who memorably traded shots of booze with the former First Lady on a codel [congressional delegation] before the 2008 campaign, succeeded in convincing Texas Republican Sen. John Cornyn, new head of the GOP’s Senate campaign committee, to drop his demand that Clinton be subjected to a roll-call vote." But two other Republicans, Sen. David Vitter of Louisiana and Jim DeMint of South Carolina, still voted "no."

We’ve no doubt she’ll brush off those two "no" votes and get busy mending our nation’s diplomatic relations. This is a big job, yes, but if anyone can do it, it’s Mrs. Clinton. Luckily, the secretary of state can start small by naming new envoys and getting to know her new colleagues at the State Department.

Frank, It speaks to her intellect, capabilities and the fact that she works so well with Republicans too that she only got 2 votes against her. Today she starts the job of bringing America back to it’s stellar reputation. I await the day when we do need our allies to defend democracy, we get those big names in Europe behind us once again.

Anyone else think that David Vitter voted against her because Hillary wasnt a prostitute? When is he going to become “transparent” and disclose how much he spends on prostitutes? We know what Eliot Spitzer paid.

Hillary Clinton will be a great Secretary of State. She is strong and compassionate at the same time….. Neither, President Obama and Hillary Clinton will put out unreasonable demands on other countries. Both have the same thoughts about dealing with other countries….. talk it out and come to an agreement….. many on the other side see that as a sign of weakness….. I see it as a strength. Now if the Republicans will stop with the “dramatics” and get Eric Holder through the confirmation process so the Obama Administration can get started.

I think this is the best role for Clinton. I’m so glad we have her as our Secretary of State.

We don’t know how Hillary or Obama will react to the middle east. They’ve never had any experience in that arena. Each situation will dictate how they will respond. You know, Roger, you treat foreign relations like a DayCare facility. “Okay, now everybody share their nice little WMD’s and if you are good we’ll all go outside and try to dig up some more bad Bush stuff!” I invite you to step into the real world of the Middle East. They will “agree” to anything to get what they want but they are lying. Lying is a way of life with them. They can’t be trusted to to keep their word on anything. Look at their history. These are the people you think we can shake hands with and be stupid enough to believe what they say? Lord help us if that is truly what they believe!

Well, this should be a perfect job for her. She’s never let the facts confuse her version of the truth!

Lets be clear deber—— WMD in the middle east is a myth….. Unless you count Israel….. they do have atomic weapons. Yes people lie in the middle east…. in America as well. You say they cant be trusted…. look at their history….. yadda yadda yadda…… if you remember a few years back…….. the Bush Administration said these same things about North Korea……… and we refused to speak to them for years….. then they tested a nuclear weapon….. lo and behold….. we start talking to them… and North Korea backs down…… will you criticize Bush and Rice for talking to these liars that cant be trusted in North Korea the same way you are criticizing President Obama and Hillary Clinton?

Don’t get your boxers in a twist, Roger. If you think WMD’s in the middle east is a myth I’m inclined to ask you why every country has their own facility to put out uranium and plutonium? If they don’t have a facility in place now (in a remote place) they haven’t finished building it yet. Probably waiting for needed parts from North Korea. If you honestly think that North Korea “mended their ways” when confronted by the United States….think again. WMD’s equates to major status in the middle east. Any country without it isn’t a player in their eyes. I believe Bush and Rice know what’s going on. I’m certain we have enough spies in North Korea to know EXACTLY what they have and don’t have. Now, we get down to Obama and Hillary Clinton….I have one comment. After they read all of the intelligence reports with regard to the middle east, I doubt seriously that they will believe anyone who says they do not have weapons of mass destruction. What concerns me is that you seem to be on the side of the terrorists countries. You don’t sound like an American to me.

What concerns me is that you seem to be on the side of the terrorists countries. You don’t sound like an American to me. That is exactly the kinds of statements that George Bush and the rest of the right win nut cases use to attack those that dont agree with them…. where is the unity that you were demanding yesterday? Questioning our leaders is not un-American, it is exactly what our country was built on. No we dont have all the facts….. all we can go on are the things that were said in public….. It is good that their minds were changed…. just stop bashing the ones that were right in the first place. A good quote: Fascism will come wrapped in a flag and carrying a Bible. ~ Sinclair Lewis 1935

Right On!! Those Islamic world does not want peace in the middle east. Listen to them, they are not even conceiling the fact that the real motive is to blow Israel of the face of the earth. Its not about land, its about total control by them.
