Hockey Fans Booed 'Hockey Mom' Sarah Palin at Flyers' Game (Video)

The self-proclaimed "hockey mom" was booed by hockey fans in Philadelphia last night.

Sarah Palin did not receive the warmest welcome before she dropped the ceremonial puck at Saturday’s NHL hockey game between the New York Rangers and Philadelphia Flyers. The Republican vice presidential candidate’s visit was one day after a legislative probe concluded that she abused her power as Alaska’s governor, CNN reported. The report probing Palin’s firing of Alaska’s public safety commissioner found that Palin violated a state’s ethic’s law — which prohibit using public office for personal benefit — when she tried to get Mike Wooten fired. Wooten was a state trooper and Palin’s sister’s ex-husband. The investigation also stated that Palin’s firing of the commisioner Walter Monegan was authorized.

"Flyers’ fans, please welcome the best-known hockey mom in the United States," the announcer said. Watch the YouTube clip below to see what happened next:

You know what Jennifer, the people depicted in these videos you have posted (whichI thank you for posting, because no one can now deny their words or imply they were taken out of context) are the same people I meet on a regular basis and refer to me as “one of the good ones” and “she’s a good colored gal” People should never underestimate the power of words. Obamas words of change have swept through our country and the world, now millions are supporting him. Coversely McCain’s and Palin’s negative words about Obama being a terroritst and unpatriotic, have resonated among millions. They truly believe it…. Our only saving grace is in America THESE people are the true minorites. The majority that make up America are open minded, embrasive of others and recognize that there are more things that bring us together than sepearates us.

Hello Belinda…and thank you Jennifer… Belinda, I do so earnestly hope that your assessment of the minority situation is accurate…”true minorities”…. Last night I fell asleep listening to C-span about the “The Millenial Makeover”….the authors take on the young/diverse new majority was compelling and let me doze off thinking all might still be well.. Also, Kathleen Hall Jamieson was on Bill Moyers..about negative campaigning, etc..and that’s worth a quick look… I can’t go out of my door without seeing someone who thinks the way those ranting folks do…and the guilt by association tack reminds me so much of the McCarthy years…..My father was a student at Virginia Seminary in Alexandria, Va…my siblings and I attended an integrated (first in Virginia), progressive, co-operative private school..Faculties from both, friends, families, acquaintances, activities…all came under fire from McCarthy…. Long lenses taking pictures of those who frequented certain bookstores, etc….I was just a third grader but my memory of this is vivid….the grownups talking late into the night and that new-fangled gizmo(TV..one channel) covering the hearings….and teachers crying because a spouse had lost a good government job…… Takes me a long time to get through the threads…I’m wondering how our right-leaning girlfriends here can be silent about the rally rant…..maybe they’re not…like I said, I haven’t been very far today…..

FP, I meant what I said, I have lived my entire life (with the exception of living on the East Coast for 2 seconds) in Wisconsin. If I had a dime for every time someone said the comments I mentioned to me I wouldn’t’ have to work another day of my life! Just last week a woman who is a counter clerk at a store I frequent told me “You know what Honey, you are such a pretty gal, you have to be one of the prettiest colored gals I have ever seen!” When I of course corrected her and reminded her this was 2008 and not 1948, she said what I hear constantly “I’m sorry, I really am, its just that your people change what you want to be called so much I can’t keep up,” What some people don’t get is, and what I find so disturbing about the rhetoric being engaged in by McCain and Palin is, you can do more damage hurling certain words and phrases than an actual fire bomb could ever do. Because you can bomb a church, and the building is gone, but the congregation can rebuild its church home. But hate filled and divisive words stick and spread and multiply, they affect one after another. The crowds and sentiments of those that attend the Palin and McCain rallies are a clear illustration of this point.

Oh and on this note…. I just saw a cable news report about a guy from Minnesota that was featured attending one of the McCain rallies and was caught on camera going on and on about how Barack Obama is a terrorist and foreigner…he is upset and complaining that his comments are being televised all over the country and now his job is in jeopardy because people he works with are condemning him. Okay everyone, let’s all do a collective……”Poor Baby” Didn’t see that one comin’ did ya pal?

Republicans talk big about personal responsibility, but somehow they always seem to mean someone else. Must be the wide stance.

MY god, i am appalled by this Belinda but yes I see that in the McCain campaign- and find it hard to believe now in the 21st cent that this type of insulting rude racist behaviour goes on. I’m not a naive man by any means but this just makes me made as all hell. I am so sorry you have to put up with this crap in your life-=so very sorry.

3-cheers—-and a nice bit is i have once-again dis-owned my ‘honkey’ family—-they actually believe Obama is a ‘spook-terrorist’—-or so they say—-fact is they’re simple-minded ‘honkeys’ (please don’t term them ‘red-necks’—-a major misnomer, going back to Scottish immigrants who wore red scarves in honor of Scotland’s Bonnie Prince Charles, who always wore a red scarf, before the Brits whacked him)—-and so true, racism yet lives—-Big Time—-now that worries me—-apparently more than you—-but i’ve heard it over and over—-‘Black-Prez? No Way. i feel you over-estimate the ‘white’ electorate’s sanity—-exactly why i prayed for a Hillary/Obama ticket—-hard enough to get our 1st woman Prez—-yet i feel it was a ‘done-deal’, w/Obama as VP—-Then our 1st ‘black’ Prez—-as it is? Obama wins? Super—-yet i worry—-hope i’m wrong—-

Belinda I find that so disturbing that people would make comments like that to you. Like they think you are going to agree with racism? Astonishing. Anyway, sorry that happened to you. The people that agree with that assessment of Sen Obama were already not going to vote for him. Now they have exposed themselves and are behaving like idiots. It is wrong. You are right. THESE people are in the minority. Most Americans are basically fair, maybe not alway interested in other’s problems, but many times fair.

Frannie, It is my opinion that there is a VAST difference between being a Racist and being Racially Prejudiced. I believe that every American is racially prejudiced, but not every American is a racist. We all hold some degree of prejudice. I, as a Black American would not enjoy the freedoms I have today if our country were comprised of a majority of racists. We are for the most part, people who harbor racial prejudice (meaning to prejudge other races) against our fellow Americans. The countless prejudices we hold can cause us to say and think some pretty stupid things sometimes, but they don’t hinder us from living among one another or recognize and allow those around us to live out the American dream. I don’t get bent out of shape when I come across people as the counter clerk I spoke of in this post. I correct language that I feel is in error, but I don’t allow it to affect how I view people. If I did, the list of people I could associate with on a daily basis would be pretty dismal. There is an old expression that has been around since the days following the emancipation of slaves “In the South you know who hates you, in the North you don’t” Translation, people in the south will tell you to your face they hate your guts, in the North people will smile in your face and then demean you behind your back. It’s unfortunate that this is more apparent today than ever. I am sure I have worked among White people who smile in my face and than refer to me as the “colored” girl behind my back. I would be naïve to believe to the contrary. I personally would prefer to be told to my face discouraging remarks and beliefs. It’s only then that I know what side as a fellow American you stand on. What an interesting conversation this particular post has evolved into eh? I really love reading how others think, feel and believe.

Belinda Great and honest eye opening response. You have a wonderful heart. I like your definitions of racist and being racially prejudiced. Important distinction between the two. Yes, I think we are subtly taught the prejudices and many times are not even aware of them, but we are growing, and that inner life force will just keep pushing us forward. I am glad you are here. peas and gravy

Belinda, I get upset because I don’t hear those exact words but ones of that nature coming from my mother about people and she thinks she is being very liberal when she speaks that way. I just have to remind myself that she is 80 years old and for 20 of those years she lived with my step dad who was very prejudiced. Then I go to my granddaughter’s 12th birthday party yesterday and there were about 30 kids there and a total mix who thought nothing of it, gives me great hope for their future, that they don’t see the differences. They see people. They see friends.

Nauseating videos. It’s easy to see what small minds can do when they want to create hate videos. So much for freedom of Speech. They remind me of the German propaganda in the 1920’s and 1930’s when they were setting up their Jewish citizens for future termination. I have to say that the U.S. did it too during WW2 against the Japanese and the Germans. But our goal was not extinction of a race. We needed to win a war. An election is not supposed to be a war. It is supposed to be all about the candidates debating their positions on how to run the country. It is supposed to be normal people wanting to be elected and serve their country.. Sarah Palin has a lot of guts to get out their in public and smile in the face of insults and rejection. Either she does not comprehend what is happening or is just a strong person. In either case she will not be our next VP because I think she has guts but not the intellectual comprehension of what is happening. John McCain needs to stop allowing his supporters to make a fool of him. Surely he disagrees with the Obama vitriol published under his name. Maybe he lacks comprehension also.

she doesn’t have ‘guts’—-she’s ‘nutz’—-there IS a difference—-let her go fly-fishing in the AK bush—-there ya pack a sawed-off 12-gauge, loaded with ‘poison-slugs’, a .44 mag/or .357 Colt Python—-not some ‘long-range’, shoot the big thing, from a safe distance high-powered rifle, w/scope—-that’s ‘chicken-shit-stuff’ in AK—-just like her—-
