Hillary Clinton Sworn in as Holder Gets Senate Nod

Barack Obama’s Cabinet is slowly coming together.
First, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was officially sworn in yesterday afternoon. Husband Bill and daughter Chelsea were on hand for Hillary’s moment, as were comedian her mother Dorothy, Chevy Chase and three other secretaries of state. None other than Vice President Joe Biden — the man who almost had the top diplomatic post for himself — swore her in.
"Never did I think, Madame Secretary, that I would swear you in as secretary of state," said Biden, who also had his hat in the White House ring this past campaign year before he dropped out of the primaries. "Life has that funny way of unfolding and politics is even stranger," Clinton added.
And in a more-awkward-than-funny moment, Clinton thanked her husband, the former president, by saying: "I am so grateful to him for a lifetime of … [weird pause] all kinds of experiences." All kinds of experiences, indeed! We thought she wanted to forget those days!
Meanwhile, after a bit of delay, the Senate voted 75-21 yesterday to confirm Eric Holder as the next attorney general. Some Republicans were worried he would prosecute former officials accused of torture. While Holder doesn’t seem eager to do such a thing, he’s expected to totally reform the Justice Department, a department whose reputation was left battered by the Bush administration. Holder will also work on enforcing civil-rights protects and combating violence against women. "There’s a big job to do, and it’s going to be Mr. Holder’s duty to turn this department around and restore its credibility," said Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-CA.
