As Husband Prepares for Veep Seat, Jill Biden Keeps Teaching Gig

With only weeks until her husband takes over as vice president, one would expect Jill Biden to be winding down her own life and making preparations to become a dutiful second lady. Well, she isn’t.
Rather than giving her life entirely to her new position, Mrs. Biden’s doing what few second ladies have done: She’s keeping her day job. A teacher at Delaware Technical and Community College, Jill Biden plans to stay on through the spring semester and then move to another school near Washington. One of her colleagues there, English teacher Mary Doody, passed on word, “She’ll still teach in the spring, but hopefully somewhere near Washington. And I know that she would definitely teach at a community college."
Most First Ladies have dedicated their lives to charity, but Biden, a former model who has a bachelor’s and two master’s degrees, as well as a doctorate, simply can’t fathom leaving her current gig. Yes, some DC-area schools have already offered her positions, but Biden has said she loves working with the economically disadvantaged groups that often attend community colleges. "I just love that population," said Mrs. Biden last month. "It just feels really comfortable to me. I love the women who are coming back to school and getting their degrees because they’re so focused."
Biden’s spokeswoman had little to say on the matter, only offering this: "Right now she is focused on her family, her students and planning for the exciting years to come." Biden will also reportedly continue her work with Delaware Boots on the Ground, which works with military families, as well as extend her work into breast cancer and education-centric charities.
