Getting Gown Part II: Michelle Obama Wearing Isabel Toledo Today

By Billy Norwich

The exquisite soft maize coat and dress Michelle Obama will wear today to the swearing in of husband Barack Obama, the 44th president of the United States on Capitol Hill, comes from designer Isabel Toledo. A veteran of the fashion world, last year was tough for Toledo when label Anne Klein, for whom she had been designing in a relaunch of the brand, let her go for financial reasons. But Barneys officials, who sell Toledo’s own label collection, will now have to prepare extra space to accommodate the increasingly popular designer. Thanks, Mrs. O!

Also noted, Mrs. Obama wore two outfits by Narciso Rodriguez on Saturday: the camel-colored coat and dress worn to the "We Are One" concert, and the purple coat and dress she wore earlier that day for the ceremony at Arlington National Ceremony.

I love the Toledo outfit The shoes and gloves are perfect. Fabulous Rodriquez outfits yesterday as well. Stunning. The girls look amazing today as well. Who are they wearing?

I loved her outfit today, but the gloves? Ech. They didn’t fit with the outfit. Color was off.

The girls looked amazing this morning, just too cute! And the fact that Michelle is wearing Isabel Toledo just rocks, not only is she an amazingly original designer and completely an insider fashionista but she’s Cuban! yay! makes another Cuban American (me) so proud! and so is Narciso Rodriguez for that matter, how cool is that?! woo-hoo! Cubans rocking White House fashion!

She is beautiful and wears everything so well - as a petite, I am quite envious! Couldn’t someone have found shades of gloves and shoes that matched better? That was a distraction to a lovely outfit.

the dress was to “matronly” for her age!

Loved everything so far, EXCEPT for this dress. Yellow does nothing for her beautiful brown skin, the rinestoney thing at the neck looked tacky, the bow holding the coat together looked to girlish, the fabric was too busy for all the layers. And I agree with SJ above, it looked matronly. She usually hits it but sometimes has some big misses. The red & black ” black widow spider’ dress on election night was one, this, in my opinion was another. She is trying too hard to make a statement, she’ll be fine as she goes along, but I’m getting a little nervous about the Ball gown.

I agree.. It was to lacy!! She is s strong woman she does no need frills! And you are right the yellow of that dress does not flatter her complexion! The bright yellow with the black look fabulous. She would look beautiful in a champaign gold gown shimmering gown or even slighlty orange….I also want to see tonights outfit!
