Isaac Mizrahi and Liz Claiborne to Marry!

By Billy Norwich

Yes, pretty much the only news in fashion this season is gloom and doom with but a few exceptions. Among them is the collaboration of fashion talent and enthusiast Isaac Mizrahi with big brand Liz Claiborne. Hired over a year ago to relaunch the great American label, and while still very much designing his high-end Isaac Mizrahi fashion collection, the rollout of Isaac’s inspired, sporty, colorful and upbeat first collection for Liz Claiborne begins next month.

In a move that sounds intuitive, but seems to have taken forever for Seventh Avenue to get right, the marriage of Isaac and Liz Claiborne represents the fullest effort to date to provide great design at moderate prices. Everyone is watching to see the results take hold. Just in time for Valentine’s Day, is the marriage of Isaac and Liz just what the consumer cupid needs to excite fashion shoppers in the Great Recession? Reaching out to the Liz Claiborne woman, whom Isaac describes as "smart, sophisticated women who are perpetually 35," we certainly think so.

Here is a first look courtesy of Women’s Wear Daily today.

Sounds like they match up very well. Liz with her corporate cuts and Isaac with his flair for the frilly. Can’t wait to see the outcome of the first collection!

I’m doing fine beautiful lady. Just too busy to enjoy much surfing/blogging time- the joy and pain of working motherhood. It’s nice to connect with you, I hope your new year has been good so far.

Those styles are just silly, IMHO.

It is just an odd way to put it. At first I took it literally, thinking that some people may not know that Liz Claiborne passed away last year or that Misrahi is gay, and that what the news is really is a corporate marriage in which the house of Claiborne employs the talents of Misrahi. But it is sad that this will mean no more dramatically designed sheets and comforters at Target.

Liz C. needs all the help it can get. Stock shares are way down. If you visit their website, you will see they are practically giving their leftover merchandise away. Everything is on sale and clearance. Isaac is a wonderful spirit. I wish Liz C. all the best. Hope they can stay in business.

Funny, these clothes bring to mind “That Girl” in the 60’s. Cute. I’d love to know if Marlo Thomas thinks so too. The only outfit that didn’t make me think of ‘Ann Marie’ was the orange split skirt (or whatever it’s called) with the yellow tank top and long shirt… now THAT was me, I would wear that.

I have totally skipped over anything Liz Claiborne for years. it’s way to soccer mom for me. But i didn’t like even one piece in this preview collection. especially not the burlap bag thing with the tie at the neck. it doesn’t even look good on the size 0 model!
