Jane Wagner's Ode to the New Year

Jane Wagner
I like New Year’s Day itself.

Jane, But why? I am waiting for the “punch line” or cartoon, or? I miss your drawings and words of wisdom Ms Jane! Now, you best get us some new stuff here, you know the “natives’ may have an uprising, on this site. lol My favorite day is my Birthday! It reminds me that I am still here, and that I was born, and am still making a mark on the world. (Since my birth was really quite difficult, it is just such a reminder which enables me to realize how much a miracle it is, I am even here at all.)

Miss JANE!!! God, I’m so glad you are back on the scene. I was beginning to have withdrawals. New Year’s day is cool, isn’t it? It feels fresh—like you can start over.

My dear Ms. Jane: Me, too - I’m glad you’re back. I like most days but especially when I hear from you because I consider you one of my true friends. I especially like days when there is no wind or rain. I know I could stay inside but that is not my choice. Huggs and purrs from Dice, the Nice

Serena - thank you for the compliment!! I really like to have people kiss the top of my furry head - how did you know? Love from the Dice man.

You just look like the type, Dice man. My Jordan doesn’t care for being kissed—unless it is on his terms, of course. But alas, being kissed means that he must also bathe the human off himself afterwards. I suppose it’s just too much trouble.

New Year’s Day always feels like a clean slate for me. I tend to think of all the possibilities and all the experiences I’ll have of the course of the new year. I think it would feel a bit more refreshing if it wasn’t in the very cold month of January. Good choice, Jane:)

I agree with Amanda - something about January 1st makes me feel renewed, forgiven, my slate has been cleaned, etc. New Year’s Day has to be the least overwhelming day of the year, let alone HOLIDAY, because it’s also a relief knowing that the next Christmas won’t be for a looong while. Sucks that it’s hella cold, though. Winter is evil and it must be destroyed. …or I must at least move to SoCal.

Kryssi, One of the reasons I like New Years Day is to look at the coming year, have a sense of hope to make “Do Overs” ya know? Like Do Overs for the past eight years even - awk! It is also a great time to reflect on the past year, in order to hopefully learn from my past mistakes… well, one can hope, anyway. Do ya want some [cold] California sun? It really is cold here. We are having extreme weather going on right now, in So. Ca It is supposed to drop to freezing temps overnight, here. We’re going to have a blast of freezing temps. (at night) for the next week, or so. Other than that, the weather is just fine, jump on in! lol

Define “freezing” temps, please. If it’s higher than TEN degrees, it’s safe to suggest that SoCal is still the place I’d prefer to be right now. lol Last night I screamed profanity during the walk from my job to my car. Wasn’t too long of a distance; just from parking lot to building…yet it was still enough to fill me with rage. I didn’t care that there were plenty of people around to be offended. Freezing and being surrounded by death is my idea of Hell. Dante had it right on the money. Screw it. I’m gonna get a second home somewhere right smack on the equator.

Kryssi, LMBO! 1) Yes, it is warmer than 10 degrees, here. 2) How would your house on the equater be arranged? Like half and half? Or would you simply stand on the imaginary line and proclaim either side as your property?
