Jennifer Hudson, the Oscar-winning former "American Idol" contestant, has just announced she’s engaged to David Otunga, who is, coincidentally, also a former reality TV star.
Otunga, who is known as "Punk" from the tawdry reality dating show "I Love New York 2," popped the question to Hudson on her 27th birthday on Friday, reports the British MTV.
The couple has been dating for less than a year.
They met after "New York" — aka Tiffany Pollard — broke up with Otunga on week 10 of the show, and in past episodes she criticized him for his busy work schedule.Hudson’s publicist, Jessica Kolstad told the Associated Press on Monday that the couple hasn’t set a wedding date yet.
Hudson won a best supporting actress Oscar in 2007 for her role in "Dreamgirls." Her film credits also include "Sex and the City" and the upcoming "The Secret Life of Bees." Hudson is also releasing her debut solo album, "Jennifer Hudson," on September 30.
While the mainstream press such as the Los Angeles Times is criticizing the actress for choosing a guy who was rejected on a show by a woman named New York, who was also rejected twice by Flavor Flav on his own reality show called "Flavor of Love," some are failing to mention that Otunga is a Harvard Law School grad (Fox News) and ex-attorney (UPI).
