Jennifer Hudson's Super Bowl Performance Sparks Lip-Sync Controversy (Video)

By The Staff at wowOwow.com
Jennifer Hudson's triumphant performance

Some people just can’t give Jennifer Hudson a break. The singer, whose mother, brother and nephew were murdered last year, came out of seclusion to sing at last night’s Super Bowl, and now people are making a big deal out of the fact that she was lip-syncing.

Although entertainers can perform live, the NFL pre-game show producer, Rickey Minor, admitted that Hudson and Faith Hill, who sang "America the Beautiful" before the national anthem, used the tracks they provided to the NFL a week before the game.

Hudson deserves the utmost respect, for it was definitely a challenge for the singer to take stage. As her brother-in-law faces charges for the brutal killings of her family members, Hudson is slowly trying to transition herself back in to the public spotlight. And that’s not easy, especially when media criticism abounds.

"This was such an important performance, because it’s the first time everyone has seen Jennifer," producer Minor said to the Associated Press. "But she’s in such a great place, with such great spirits, and time can heal her wounds. She’s on fire right now and totally grounded."

Let’s try to not crush Hudson’s spirits, OK? She’s also scheduled to perform at the Grammy Awards on February 8 — where she is nominated for four awards, including Best R&B album.

Watch her stunning performance at last night’s Super Bowl and let’s give Hudson the standing ovation she deserves:

Lots of folks do this, I personally think it takes away hearing the true voice of the performer and I prefer to hear them sing live myself, but it must have been her or her managers choice to do it so we’ll have to live with it.

She lip-synced? Well I think she should be tarred and feathered! The outrage! How dare she! Even though my prayers go out to her for her tragic loss, beyond that, lip-syncing is done on a regular basis these days, so anyone that attempts to make a big deal out of it, is someone who has too much time on their hands.

I had no idea she lip synced…I was too mesmerized by the sound and power of her voice…not to mention her internal courage/spirit that gave her the strength to do this. Had I been through what she went through, I would have still been curled in the fetal position in a dark room some where.

I think we have become a nation of bored drones who have become obsessed with so-called “controversies”.

Right now she is still in emotional state from what happen to her family. Lip-syncing was a nice way to bring her back to performances. I hope she’s able to carry on in life and be a strong women.

I read an article on HuffPo that stated it was at the request of Rickey Minor (see above) that Jennifer and Faith used the tapes sent in earlier.

Wow- this is getting unreal. What a shame they won’t pass a vetting process because they once Lip-Sync at the Super Bowl.

I didn’t care that it was recorded. It was one of the worst renditions of our National Anthem I have heard, live OR recorded… I do not understand why people feel the need to personalize the Anthem. It’s not a dirge, it’s not rock, it’s not soul, it’s not contemporary. It’s an expression of hope and faith, and of happiness at a great battle’s outcome… it should be sung at the correct tempo with the correct words and the correct notes. Extemporize on America the Beautiful or Subterranean Homesick Blues, not the National Anthem!

That’s like saying we must all sing the National Anthem like a pilgrim would have sung it. This is American… you get lots of renditions in everything, that’s our strength!

Totally disagree ! Our National Anthem is one of the most boring songs, with no musical merit, and there have been attempts to change it for years. Preferably to America The Beautiful, a MUCH better song.

I agree. And why should a national anthem be so damn hard to sing? Not very democratic!

I heard on the news that since the whole Janet Jackson boob curtain call, the performances are all taped b/c it is live tv and they want to make sure the American public gets the best performance ever…I dont care if it was pre recordered or not Jennifer and Faith both did a great job with their songs. I am glad that we have variety in how the songs are sung b/c it shows how diverse our Country is & isnt that whats so great about America? Congrats to the Steelers for pulling out yet another VICTORY!
