Jeremiah Wright Lashes out at Media, 'Ditzy Broad' Hasselbeck

Reverend Jeremiah Wright still knows how to make a headline.

The Chicago-based preacher man, who led Barack Obama’s former congregation before resigning this year, took the Trinity Church of Christ’s stage again this weekend to blast the media and their behavior during the presidential campaign.

Wright’s no doubt angry over the media’s role in his resignation — nearly every paper and news channel played an endless loop of his controversial sermons, including the post-9/11 tirade in which he spouted his infamous "god damn America" remark, which sparked a national firestorm. Wright insisted this weekend that President-elect Obama made a "bad decision" in distancing himself from Wright — and Trinity — but blames the media: The hatred of the media and the haters in politics may have caused him to distance himself from us, but the love of Christ will never allow me to distance myself from him." We’re sure Obama’s thrilled.

While it was the general media that took much of Wright’s ire, he took some special time to take on avowed-enemy Elisabeth Hasselbeck, whom he twice referred to as a "broad." On of those references included the adjective "ditzy."

Oh, Shut Up and Go Away ! I understand that there is Black Liberation Theology, that it can be incendiary, that it is different than sermons in all white churches, it is dealing with deep, real grievances, and his remarks were taken out of context and seemed much less angry when you hear the whole sermon …. I get it ….

This is such a non-issue. The MSM and a whole lot of people have decided to take Rev. Wright’s words out of context. The only reason that his sermons…and the sounds bytes were snipped and edited for effect were reported solely to demean Obama and to call Rev Wright anti-American. Like the people who are questioning Barack Obama’s right to be president based on his questioned birth status, the Rev Wright and his credibility as a man of God and an effective community activist will be forever sullied. As for Elizabeth Hasselbeck….? Despite the fact that she has stated repeatedly that she doesn’t need to “learn anything more about the issues,” well, this statement speaks volumes about her ignorance about people, issues and her motivation. I know that her positions makes the show controversial the sad thing is that there are too many people in America who refuse to read and investigate the facts and therefore endorse pre-emptive wars and decide that other Americans are traitors because they disagree with their unexamined platforms.

Our nation must start at least an effort to understand culture, and the black church experience is part and parcel of their cultural right. Hell’s bells, where else can they loudly express their angst if not in their worship; we’ll soon follow. I’d love to go somewhere and let it all out, frankly, and better yet, believe that someone on high heard me, and my peer group tolerated me, and all would be well. I’d like that for others, too - if that is their need. Again the media plays us to the tune of God Bless America, and expects us to merely take it, and continue watching their idiocy, furthermore, that practice has now swelled over to the weekly newscasts (I use that term very loosely) which are far from new and filled with subjective content, innuendos and leading questions never answered. In respect for culture, I felt almost the same way about the Saudi show as I did the interview of Khadafi years back - we are not an ignorant county but these interviews make us appear like imbeciles who have not a modicum of knowledge about others lives, and worse, respect for others culture. What on earth happened to “when in Rome … “? I’d like to suggest that “the media” attend one of Wright’s sermons, and an entire service, then talk among themselves. Frankly, I haven’t heard him say anything many of us have not said sine 9/11 - the Administration has not been wholly honest with us now, has it! At the same time, with all due respect, I do not believe that Wright was any different when the Obamas’ were there however, his lashing out during the campaign, born no doubt out of anger, and disappointment, had to dealt with by that family; I’m equally certain Wright is contrite. If Hasselbeck, and the View, want to continue wallowing in this stuff they can keep right on hashing it out, but it’s not giving them more viewers, in spite of what the network claims - why would be believe the network? If that group really was interested in quashing this nonsense, why address it? Yawn. I’d be very surprised if the sponsors weren’t wanting more for their money by now - it’s just good business. I’d prefer to see my helper on their being interviewed by recycled movie stars and those promoting their efforts in the entertainment industry - it’s called acting, which we need no more of in the U.S.

No! I’d prefer to see my helper being interview on the View than recycled … my adaptive software’s screwed up so I am, too.

P.S. No mention of the Right Rev. Hagee and his wholesome sermons. Hypocrisy at its worst!

Bottom line, for me, is one can make their point without using words like “broad” or “ditzy”.

You are right Allene. Elizabeth Hasselbeck does need to take off her narrow eyeglass and open up to see the whole issue here.

I wish he would choose his words better. However, considering Hasselbeck’s hammering away at the Rev. Wright story to the point that it has seemed as though she is earning $1,000 a pop for each time she mentions his name, I can sure understand how Wright would lash out at her in return!

But…but….where is the point that one ‘turns the other cheek’, as taught in the Christian Bible….rise above the petty stuff said about you, without having to sling itt right back? To be honest with you—-neither Wright, NOR Hassleback deserve all this attention…..probably why I don’t know who said what about the other….and I probably should ‘say no more’……

I defended Rev. Jeremiah Wright when he came under fire by the media and public as a result of some of the comments he made on the pulpit. I did so because I understood (but strongly disagreed) with “why” he felt the way he did. Barack did a wonderful job at explaining this via his speech on race relations as a follow-up to this controversy. The reality is there are A LOT of Black men whose minds are indeed stuck in the 1960’s. But when he turned on Barack and essentially threw him under the bus, coupled with my conversations with people who actually attend the church and in a candid manner gave me the true scoop on him (not good….) he needs to go somewhere and SHUT UP! You had your 15 minutes pastor, the clock doesn’t reset.

and SHUT UP! You had your 15 minutes pastor, the clock doesn’t reset. By Belinda . on 12/08/2008 8:25 p I agree- Rev. Wright needs to let go of the spot light. I understand his anger about past and present attacks against him . Elizabeth Hazzelback used Rev. Wright to attack Obama . Your point about Black men like Rev. Wright having a mind set that is stuck in the 60’s is well taken. No one is saying that racism doesn’t still exist but it is more complex and requires working together.

Rev. Wright is a demon who preaches hatred, hypocrisy, racism and other evils to an adoring congregation that drinks in his bilge. Did anyone see the latest attack by Wright against America….he claims the USA attacked Japan on December 7th. I guess he is also quite stupid; I would say ignorant but that is too good of a word to waste on a hatemonger.

If Hasselbeck were not a “blonde”, would she even BE on The View? Let’s face it—she’s there to boost up the view in the looks dept., not the brains dept. She only gets all this attention because she’s a mouth piece for Republican propaganda. It may be a smart move for her—what else does she have to offer, coming from a survivor show—cute stories about her kids? THAT’S a yawn….
