Jessica Simpson Has Meltdown on Stage

Is the media scrutiny to blame?

All the media scrutiny regarding Jessica Simpson’s weight gain and allegedly unfaithful boyfriend Tony Romo have taken a toll on the young singer.

At a performance Thursday night at the Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, MI, the blonde popstar reportedly had a public meltdown. Simpson fought back tears as she seemed to fumble with her lyrics and had issues with her earpiece. "My voice is weak tonight," she said tearfully, reports The Grand Rapids Press, "and I feel so vulnerable onstage."

The 28-year-old also asked the band to start over on one song and forgot the words to another. Simpson apologized to the 9,000 in the crowd and at one point admitted she wished she could just "walk off the stage."

The audience seemed to love Simpson anyway. "You go, girl!" one fan yelled.

Keep your head up Simpson!

I feel so sorry for Jessica. It has to be horribly humiliating to have the President of the United States make fun of your struggle with a weight problem on national television on Superbowl Sunday no less. I just think that was disgusting and nobody has said one word about it.

what are u talking about? How is the president responsible? Not being a meaney but what goes around comes around. The heart is what matters most. You can’t break someones heart and not expect it to happen to you.

HI, Theressa: What Anita was referring to was an interview that President Obama had with Matt Lauer on The Today Show, where Matt Lauer showed a cover of a magazine with Michelle Obama and the girls on the cover. Matt asked Prez if he was hurt that he was not on the cover, and Prez answered (paraphrase) that he’s not on the cover but hey, Jessica Simpson is and apparently she’s having some weight issues. Matt Lauer was quick to remind the audiences that the Prez was just reading the title under Jessica’s picture and that it was not an opinion of President Obama. I like our new President, but it’s saying things like that he will have to learn not to do on camera. This is a perfect example of how people can misconstrue a public comment and take it to a new level. As for Jessica: don’t listen to the critics, girl! I’m not a fan of your music, but am getting a little tired of the celbre cause de jour being something as stupid as a five pound weight gain (or debate thereof). You look fine to me. Hang in there.

Yes, it is so utterly sad that some washed-up pop star turned newfound country singer-wanna-be gained some weight like normal women do and it was more newsworthy than the President. The truth of the matter was, Mr. President was not poking fun of her weight-gain (he really was only reading the headline—if you’d bother to read the cover you’d know.) It’s just telling of the celebrity-driven media and the sick obsession people have with celebrities in general that we hear about pounds gained or lost instead of the issues that really matter. http://www.usmagazine.com/news/michelle-obama-to-use-pottery-barn-in-whi…

I agree- isn’t it great that as a nation, we are teaching our children about the IMPORTANT things in life. Teaching them that what a person looks like, what size they wear, and what a number on a scale is what the basis of a person is all about. Sad— very sad. It’s no wonder that women think of themselves the way they do— why we criticize ourselves and see only the negative about ourselves, rather than cherishing the positives and the real substance of a person that makes us who we are, like our personalities, the way we laugh, the sense of humor we eminate, and the mere prescence of being a wonderful woman role model for those in our lives. Yeah, weight, it’s sooooo important. I know there are many people that would give anything to have just ONE more day with a person that they have lost and loved no matter what their weight. Now, that’s heavy.

How sad, but human none the less. We all have our bad days…off days. But no one has to see them other than our family, friends and (as is the case with me, fellow bloggers on this and another site). But to be a celebrity in the entertainment field, when they have a bad day it is before the world’s eyes. Jessica may have had her melt down in front of an arena of 9,000 people, but as we see, we are now hearing about it and so are millions and millions of others. I feel bad for her and hope she can pull herself out of whatever it is that has her stressed.

I feel so sorry for her. It’s disgusting that people or the media say harsh words and feel as though these people are nothing. And shame on the President! He must know by now that every word or comment will be recorded and played over and over. Actually, I do not see why all the fuss. Jessica looks great!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qXUIcrqf4rM&feature=related Here is a link of the interview in question. For those that don’t want to listen and watch the entire interview, just scroll toward the end, that is where Jessica is discussed. And yes, it is clear President Obama did not make fun of her, he was reading the cover of the magazine.

Come on, the President didn’t make fun of her. He only pointed out the cover of the magazine where one of the news pieces cut him off the cover of the picture. Watch the clip and use common sense, he DID not make fun of her.

Here is the disgusting transcript. “You got replaced by Jessica Simpson!,” Lauer said. Obama said, “Who is in a weight battle apparently. Yeah. Oh well.”
By Anita Pimmel on 02/06/2009 4:49 pm
Buh- Bye
did that happen? did the President comment on a 28 year old singer’s minor weight increase… on camera? really? or are you just putting us on?

Shame on Matt Lauer. He poked fun at a celebrity who has shown in the past that she suffers more than most super-celebs from vulnerabilities. Whatever one thinks of Ms. Simpson it is nasty, particularly if one poses/passes as a serious journalist as M. Lauer does, to use her in such a way. He ought not to have drawn President Obama into his idiotic joke. Hopefully the prez learned a lesson there.

Yeah, well, but then Matt Lauer is not exactly the epitome of an upstanding citizen anyway, right?
