Jessica Simpson Has Meltdown on Stage

Is the media scrutiny to blame?

All the media scrutiny regarding Jessica Simpson’s weight gain and allegedly unfaithful boyfriend Tony Romo have taken a toll on the young singer.

At a performance Thursday night at the Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, MI, the blonde popstar reportedly had a public meltdown. Simpson fought back tears as she seemed to fumble with her lyrics and had issues with her earpiece. "My voice is weak tonight," she said tearfully, reports The Grand Rapids Press, "and I feel so vulnerable onstage."

The 28-year-old also asked the band to start over on one song and forgot the words to another. Simpson apologized to the 9,000 in the crowd and at one point admitted she wished she could just "walk off the stage."

The audience seemed to love Simpson anyway. "You go, girl!" one fan yelled.

Keep your head up Simpson!

The thing is, she gets more negative press on her weight than those that are doing drugs and getting DUIs and misbehaving and treating each other badly. That is sad.

For what it’s worth - Van Andel Arena is in Grand Rapids, MI. I don’t know if there is a Grand Rapids, IA. I didn’t see or hear of the “presidential” remark. I do feel bad for her, yet at the same time, not so much. She is human, but she’s elevated her celebrity partially because she IS a celebrity. You don’t get to pick and choose unfortunately.

Courtney you bet me to it. I was going to ask what state is IA. Jessica is only human. I’m sure it was nerves that make her break down. I’m sure being in front of 9,000 people is nervous enough. I think she had one nerve left and it broke right on stage. Poor thing. I hope she get some R&R, finds her soul strength.

This girl needs to take a good long break, some of them just don’t know when to call it a day or take time off and get themselves together. I think so many think if they leave the public eye they will be forgotten and in some cases that is true, but surely you must put yourself and sanity first before false pride.

Her management people should take better care of her………..I think it’s her DAD. They make the big money.

Jessica Simpson is a terrible singer who relies on sex appeal as her ‘talent’. When that sex appeal is being questioned and she doesn’t feel she can rely on it, her lack of musical talent becomes more obvious. It’s sad, and I don’t wish her any ill will, but it is a fact of her popularity.

the truly sad part is that she was raised by her parents that way! THey have been and are still so involved in her life she knows no other way! They destroyed her marriage to Nick and I think all she really wants is to be loved..just for being her! When she finally thought she had found that in Tony he cheated on her. Nick is still very defensive of her today! I sat at the next table to her and Nick along with her sister, assistant and body guard a few years back ago while at a restaurant in Seattle ..she is a a very beautiful young woman!

DeBurca you are so right! Jessica has flaunted her body for many years. She has a great figure, even with the extra pounds. Unfortunately, she will never see herself as being attractive at her current weight. I think her parents have pushed her into stardom with the gimmick of Beautiful, Virginal, Voluptuous, Blonde. She was so young when this all started. I wish her well, but, it seems that she is having a very hard time growing up and losing that ditzy, but adorable image.

Hear! Hear! If Jessica Simpson truly had sustainable singing talent she wouldn’t BE forgotten, regardless of how long her hiatus.

Jessica Simpson’s weight is of no importance to me. She finally looks like a normal non-celebrity woman. But she has melted down a bit too often for my tastes. Doesn’t anyone remember that her performance for The Kennedy Honors had to be re-recorded (at the urgent insistence of her father/manager) in order to prevent shaming herself during the televised version? She didn’t remember her song’s lyrics then either. And there was a benefit in Texas last year where the same thing happened. It is her CHOSEN job to stay on point during a concert which the audience has paid for. When a non-entertainer messes up in his chosen job the people paying him FIRE him and that’s life for us normal folks. Instead of find it cute and announcing to her paying audience that she misses her boyfriend she should find it professional to know the words to the songs she plans to sing.

Hey, she is a commodity, let’s face it. She sought out this profession and when she put herself out there for the positive publicity to promote whatever, she’s also going to get the negative. I admire those entertainment professionals who truly see their careers as a job, not a way of life. They do their job well with ACTUAL talent, and then can confidently live their lives outside of needing the spotlight. I’m sorry she is having a difficult time, but hey, it’s what the media tabloids love— negative news sells better than the positive, even that which is created and exploited, which the tabloids do so well. Unfortunately many younger entertainers allow themselves to be manipulated and burned by the tabloid paps.

Yes, it is unfortunate that Jessica cannot have a bad day in the privacy of her own home, but that is the path she agreed to let her managing parents lead her down. The only person who has manipulated her is her father. Joe Simpson has done everything from comment on the size of her breasts to encourage the exploitation of every marketing opportunity that comes her way. (A chili cook off, really??) Everyone has bad days but you can’t have your cake and eat it too. If you don’t want to be criticized for the way you feel, act, sing, look then don’t do it in the public eye. Don’t become a public figure and expect the public not to have an opinion when you flake out.

Jessica Simpson is beautiful. She looks like a real woman and not some lollipop-headed stick as many of our singers and entertainers do. She needs to develop her inner strength and realize her sense of self worth comes from inside and not from what a bunch of know-nothing outsiders say.

This is so typical of what the media does to get more stories. They target a vulnerable star—rip him or her apart until the star has a meltdown. Then the media writes about the meltdown and the turmoil the star encounters. This is why I refuse to read anything but quality news or articles. If you notice that celebrity women who have been attacked in the past for their looks and have stood up to the media when critized for their weight, such as Queen Latifa, the media eventually leaves them alone. Personally, I think Queen Latifa is just gorgeous the way she is and am thrilled that she is proud of the way she looks. I think Jessica looks beautiful. She probably is a size 8 now (not a 2) which is still sizes smaller than the average American woman.

Jessican Simpson is a beautiful, talented young woman. Why do stars have to constantly be picked on…especially to the point that it effects their self-esteem and performing talents. She is gorgeous at any weight and looks very womanly right now…not like a 12 year old. I’d give my eye teeth to be as “fat” as she is.
