If Jessica Simpson Looks Fat ... Then We're in Trouble (Photo)

By The Staff at wowOwow.com

The other day we asked our contributors if the vogue of being too rich or too thin had lost its luster. From Candice Bergen to Marlo Thomas and Liz Smith, most agreed that thin is, unfortunately, still in. And today, with the popular celebrity gossip and television news program TMZ describing the beautifully curvaceous Jessica Simpson as fat, it’s no wonder our society still sees so many wafer-thin stars getting blown away on runways and red carpets.

Simpson, seen here wearing high-waisted jeans, a black tight tank top and an animal-print belt, recently appeared in concert in Florida to perform songs from her latest country album, "Do You Know." Today, the meanies at TMZ write in their headline: "Jessica Simpson: This Is How She Rolls," and go on to describe her pants as "mom jeans." One of the site’s readers, "RuffStuff," offers Simpson this slenderizing tip: "Some spanx could have really improved that outfit." Rude.

Us Weekly magazine’s website was a bit nicer to Simpson, who said that she is flaunting "new curves," and also revealed how she once told Harper’s Bazaar that she prefers meat on her bones. But then the magazine decided to run a rather unflattering photograph of Simpson from behind that makes us wonder about the real message they’re sending to their readers.

Do you think Simpson’s weight garnered the gawking of two widely read media outlets?

My first thought was “who the hell cares”, then I realized how cruel this is to her and to all the rest of us who are attempting to look that good and be healthy on top of it!! The whole Hollywood-body thing is out of control as far as I’m concerned - my darling boyfriend says he’d disown me if I EVER looked like one of those “stick-women”!!

I dont understand why women put up with it. You have models that are like 14 years old that are the runway models for “womans” clothes. You see bikini models with hip bones sticking out, rib cages on prominent display. This look is supposed to be “sexy” Children dressed up like adults are not sexy……. bones are not sexy…… women are sexy…..women have curves…… why not have real women model womans clothes? Isnt there a size 0? I just dont understand.

In today’s society if you aren’t size 0 or 2, you are deemed to be fat. Thank goodness I no longer base my self esteem off of others. I love my body, from head to toe and all points in between! As long as I’m healthy, can move, walk, bend, dance and exercise….I’m okay!

I’m new here, this is my first post. I completely disagree with the post that women are deemed fat if they’re not a size 0 to 2. Actually its after a size 8. People with extra lbs, do not want those extara lbs. Its hard to dance and exercise with a 60 sack of potatoes on your back. Jessica Simpson stays fit and attractive because she wants to.

There is no absolute size measurement that corresponds to fat, especially considering how much variation there is within a particular size. Certainly some fat people do wear a size 10. Other extremely fit women who aren’t fat also wear a size 10. It really depends on the individual! That being said, it’s important for a person to exercise and eat right regardless of what size they wear.

Drunken Negro Head’ Cookies Take Bite at Barack Obama (Video) “If you live in Chicago, Reverend Wright at the Trinity Church would be one.” By alex harvey on 01/26/2009 Anyone that would make this comment is not a person of depth or intelligence. So your opinion on women and their bodies means absolutely nothing. This is a women’s site, keep that in mind before you start sharing your narrow minded views in regard to women.

Obviously, we need a new yardstick to measure character in this country. And a new tape measure for beauty.

Alex - by the way, over a size 8 isn’t FAT either! You can be a trim, healthy and attractive size 10, 12 or even 14. Many women who exercise and eat right can gain weight as they age depending on genes and hormones. Thank god I’m well over fifty, and no longer need or desire to look as I did when I was 25. So I’m one of those size 14 good lookers, devoted as much to developing my mind and spirit as I am to my appearance.

I remember the days BEFORE Twiggy. Marilyn Monroe and Liz Taylor were girls with curves and no one thought to call them the dreaded “f” word. This whole skinny, thin thing has gone too far. It’s still true that if you buy cheap clothes you ear larger sizes. The ideal should be based on the individual and what they and their significant other(s) consider attractive.

…..and this is news? I have enough problems on my plate and the country is having a whole set of it’s own….and we actually WORRY about how fat Jessica might be? C’mon people……

Oh give me a break. I’m 5”3 and 92 lbs. and even I can say this woman is NOT fat. She looks healthy and sexy. And by the way, it’s not just people over the dreaded size 8 that get picked on, either. If one more person asks me if I have an eating disorder or demands that I eat a hamburger (I do all the time and don’t throw it up, thank you very much) I’m really going to go ballistic. Point being I’ve noticed it doesn’t seem to matter what you weigh or what you look like, there’s always going to be some nitwit that feels the need to find some nonexistent flaw and chastise you for it. I’ve known a few women that were or are considered clinically obese and they’re perfectly healthy and look gorgeous. Why, because that’s THEIR beauty. There just isn’t this ideal weight or physical look. It doesn’t exist. This is why I just ignore tabloids. All they do is make feel like crap and like they’re never good enough.
