Jill Biden to Oprah: My Husband Joe Had VP or State Pick (Video)

Joe Biden is famous for his gaffes and verbal slipups. And he may be rubbing off on his wife, Jill.

The gorgeous Dr. Jill Biden let it slip on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" Monday that her hubby actually had the choice to be either Barack Obama’s running mate or secretary of state.

She said, "Joe had the choice to be secretary of state or vice president," a remark that drew a murmur from the crowd. The former senator from Delaware then turned to his wife with his finger to his lips and offered a joking, "Shhhh!" "OK, he did," Jill responded. We’re sure the actual secretary-of-state pick, Hillary Clinton, was none too pleased after watching yesterday’s episode.

Good ole’ Joe apparently decided that he’d rather spend time with his family than jet around the world as the nation’s top diplomat. And Jill agreed.

"I said, ‘Joe, if you are secretary of state, you will be away. I’ll never see you,’" Jill Biden said. "’We will see you at a state dinner once in a while.’ But I said, ‘If you are vice president, the entire family, because they worked so hard for the election, they can be involved … They can come to our home, they can go to events, they can be with us,’ and that is what is important to us."

But apparently Obama’s people didn’t think it was too funny.

"To be clear, President-elect Obama offered Vice President-elect Biden one job only — to be his running mate," a statement from Biden’s spokeswoman said. "And the vice president-elect was thrilled to accept the offer."

I can’t believe she said that! Now that she is the wife of a Vice President, she is going to have to learn discretion. What she said may indeed be true, but she should have realized the firestorm of conversation that comment would unleash.

I wonder if it was meant to be a gaff?? Or if foot in mouth disease is really contagious??

I’m sure since she is a Dem she will be given a pass for her verbal “mistakes”….. unlike the vile , divisive comments on this site about Sarah Palin that are made consistantly on this site. I will say it likely was a slip of the tongue and ..in her “elevated position” she should know better. She might want to watch her back when Hillary is in the room…she might find a knife in it if not careful! Especially since her own husband said she was a better candidate than BHO..when it served his own purpose.

I didn’t see the show — but, you’ve got to wonder — what on earth was the purpose of that statement, even if it were true. I’m thinking there is some sort of power play thing going on here…..maybe Hillary is getting more media attention and fawning by the members of Congress than Joe and it doesn’t sit well…….so Jill wants to make sure everyone knows good ole Joe had his pick of the two jobs. This comment was very disappointing and potentially divisive while the rest of the country is focusing on uniting.

JIll Biden slipped, she’s not a public person, I bet it ruined her evening, and I feel for her. So, in the grand scheme of things, is this an earth shattering occurrence? I think not, but I could tell she could have climbed into a hole and stayed there.

Darn I missed it! Well we see if she learns from this mistake or is a lady to not have on shows?

The video is on this thread. Watch it Deb. It is clearly a passionate moment in which she is explaining how they discussed the offer as a family. Not meant to be malicious or gossipy. Refreshingly innocent. But a faux pas nonetheless.

Of course, I’m not watching tv, I’m listening to talk radio, and it was just announced that at this event, there are people with signs saying “Murder George Bush”! I know many on here will laugh, because of their hatred for President Bush, but to me, it’s a disgrace that on this day of hope that everyone is so proud of, that this really taints it.

Very well said…just as I hate to see Venezuela burning posters of Obama and celebrating. Chavez says Obama has “stench” of Bush…(google it for those that want to know facts)! When we have Americans holding signs for the world to see what people think of “our” President, then it is a “sad day for America”!

If there were people with signs saying “Murder George Bush”!, the authorities should be arresting them. This is a disgrace to the nation. Have we sunk to the level of a third world nation? This should be a complete investigation on this matter.

Hi Libra Lady, the hatred for George Bush is a disease that will keep Americans from focusing on the future.

What do you expect coming from the wife of the guy who claimed that Roosevelt went on TV the day the stock market crash? Not to mention all his racist gaffs….
