Joan Ganz Cooney Gives Obama the OK to Spend

Joan Ganz Cooney
I don’t know the answer to that question. There are so many people in the country — with many going to Washington — who want to celebrate the historic occasion, that maybe it’s OK to be little excessive.

A lot of people worked for his campaign and want to celebrate this inaugeration and will remember it the rest of their lives so I say go for it. They all know how tough things are but one day to just be happy is OK. There are all kinds of jumbo trons and local celebrations being advertised so people want to be a part of this inaugeration more than I ever remember. First you have some fun, and then there is work to be done. Amen

I understand that this is a special inauguration. But I also agree that all should enjoy themselves !! I do not agree that the menu is cost effective. He could make a small sacrifice. Instead of all that expensive seafood, he could eliminate some of it. Or go for a pasta meal that would be half the cost of the elaborate present menu. But then I think let him enjoy this one last really good blow out menu included. Then I remember he will have a Chef to cook him whatever. While most of us eat sloppy joe, Pasta and Sauce,Hot Dogs and Beans, rice and Kilbasa. And then I say I have to sacrifice every day. My husbands pay has not increased if anything his hours seem to decrease while groceries have increased alot. We bought what we have lately been buying, no crab cakes, no seafood at all. Just the basics. Never stray any more off of the list. Heating has gone up, gas for my husband’s car keeps rising. And he not only needs to have gas money to travel an hour to work and an hour back home, but also my Doctors appointments. I could go on. Elect President Obama (yes I voted for him) talks about sacrifice what will he sacrifice?

I am a gay male & feel that qualify’s me to discuss issues with both sexes. I hope you agree. I will keep this short. Talk about rediculous spending just look at Bush’s record. We are now moving from the dispair he has left us in to th HOPE this election is bring us. It is time for America to Celebrate our new President, First Lady, and as always my favorite former First Lady, Senator from New York, and now what I am sure she will be nothing short of a GREAT Secretary of State. We have much to be thankful for and they deserve our earnest prayers, positive thoughts, and support. Caroline Mulvey, Throw out your sour grapes and join in the celebration! You talk about his sacrificing, it’s Bush that hasn’t left much to work with, but I think you will be surprised. Give it some time & I think you will be surprised. drsdeere@hotmail.com

Funny how people are dismissing the historic nature of this inauguration. On another thread we are discussing which former first lady Michelle Obama reminds us of. Yet the irony of that question is lost on everyone. There have been no other first lady’s in our nation’s history that even remotely looks like Michelle Obama, because there has NEVER been a Black first lady. That of itself should point to the unique and historic nature of what will take place on January 20th. But no, let’s not spend a lot of money to celebrate this monumentous occasion. Let’s all order Chinese carry out and sit around a camp fire and sing Kumbaya in Wal-Mart jeans and shirts, let Barack say a few words and then head home. The millions we could save. Geez!

I am gay, so I feel I may comment on both sides. Celebrate? Yes, Yes, Yes! This is a very historic time and we are now moving from dispair to HOPE! I am proud of President Elect Obama, First Lady Michelle, & as always myt favorite former First Lady, Senator from New York, & now Secretary of State. If you don’t agree, do your homework, read her book, “It Takes a Village,” as well as her second book & all of her many, many projects over the last 35 years of public service. I thought Laura Bush was somewhat nice, but she shot her mouth off at President Barak when she should shoot it at her own husband. That will take a lifetime. GOODBYE BUSH’S! drsdeere@hotmail.com
